This lie is just so funny. Thousands of Nigerians walk around with the idea that Boko Haram A) was willing to negotiate, whatever that means and B) they named Buhari as one. So hilarious, and people who believe it are so stubborn in their delusion.

From all the papers I’m reading, Buhari tried his best militarily. But you cannot give what you don’t have. The Nigerian state is simply incapable of dealing with these guys as currently constituted.

Yar'Adua created a big mess for Nigeria and Goodluck by reversing Ọbásanjọ́'s last minute fuel subsidy decision.
Nigeria was drowning in debt and some oil marketers were getting richer.
Goodluck had no choice but to increase fuel price by 117% just 2 years after his death.

@kpesemi Yeah, ISWAP is surprisingly very disciplined. No drinking, smoking or extramarital sex. Bandits are heavily involved in these things, part of why they cannot unite and sometimes fight each other.

Banditry is worse because A) they are heavily armed and probably more well funded than terrorists because of success from kidnappings and B) they are heavily decentralized and integrate more easily with host communities since they have no ideological grouses

From the papers I’m reading, banditry is actually a worse problem than terrorism, At least since 2021. They’ve caused a bigger humanitarian crisis in the NW than the NE. Probably why the military asked the US to bomb Sokoto first.

It’s always amusing cause I used to do a lot of economic breakdown analysis on my page with these guys filling my comments with “thank you for this” “i now understand better” “you are really smart”
Then I started applying this analysis to Nigeria and it became “APC bot” “stupid girl” “paid gig”…. They switched up on me.
So I’m smart when I make explainers and general academic tweets, but you somehow believe that this wisdom which you have so praised, deletes in political conversations that don’t suit your agenda. Fairs.

Less focus on people's backgrounds and more on their policy preferences, would do us a lot of good.
People with PhDs have advocated for some very funky things and would continue to. It's why nobody should be above criticism. Nobel prize winners still have their ideas debated.
