Lawyers. If you're going to use chatgpt to research, at least run the cites through westlaw and see if they exist. On long briefs I'll use chatgpt AFTER the brief is written to check for grammar and to cite check. Not often, but occasionally, it will tell me a key case stands for the opposite proposition I cited it for. That's a pretty important find...if true. Guess what? It's never true. AI is a tool to get to the destination. It is not the destination.

I’ve spent the last 6-8 months repeating that AI is not good at synthesizing or interpreting case law. And it’s based on personal experience. But for some reason, people on the internet keep putting lawyers at the top of the list for the professions that AI will next extinguish.

@mdwstfrontierAI I never let it touch my document. It tells me where the errors are, a misspelled word, extra comma, etc, and then I go in and make the change to the master document.

@ProsecutorsPod Even doing the research first, if you use ChatGPT to polish your writing afterwards it can make unexpected changes that introduce errors.

The research was "Lexis and source documents," but then an LLM was used to help with "organization and formatting" and that may seem low risk. "Unfortunately, Counsel did not notice that AI had intuitively made changes to the brief prior to filing."
