Iran called on BRICS to help end the war. BRICS said nothing. The grouping that positions itself as the Global South's answer to Western dominance has been almost completely silent for 45 days. It's not a surprise. BRICS has been here before. It said nothing meaningful after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. It stayed quiet through the 2022 Ukraine invasion. Individual members did look out for themselves though. India quietly negotiated safe passage for its ships through Hormuz. China and Russia blocked a UN resolution that would have authorized force in the strait.
