What feels different about SpaceX holding Bitcoin is that the company isn’t really trying to market itself as a “Bitcoin stock.” That’s probably the most important part. The BTC position is huge in dollar terms but tiny compared to a $1.8T valuation. Which means the company can treat it more like a reserve asset instead of the entire business model. Feels like a very different signal compared to the usual treasury companies that basically trade as leveraged BTC proxies. Now that SpaceX is public, every earnings cycle will also show how a mega-cap handles Bitcoin volatility under public market accounting rules. If that process looks manageable over time, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more large tech and AI companies slowly become comfortable holding BTC on their balance sheets too.
