Password, 2FA, and KYC were enough before in terms of exchange security. Today, that's no longer the case. Deepfake technology has become good enough that exchanges are adding more security layers to protect users and billions of dollars in assets. ➤ Here's is the thing: @binance focus on continuous verification. Your identity isn't only checked during KYC. If you withdraw funds, change security settings, or trigger a risk alert, Binance can ask for another face verification before approving the action. @okx relies heavily on risk signals. Logging in from a new device or an unusual location can trigger additional verification. The idea is to treat every high-risk action differently instead of giving every user the same security flow. @Bybit_Official is pushing Passkeys alongside facial verification. Since Passkeys are tied to your physical device, they make phishing attacks and stolen passwords much less valuable to attackers. @krakenfx takes a privacy-first approach. It uses live camera verification instead of allowing users to upload photos from their gallery. This makes replay attacks more difficult while giving users clearer control over biometric data. @Gate uses Jumio's identity verification technology, combining face matching, liveness detection, and interactive challenges to make fake identities and AI-generated videos much harder to pass. The big takeaway is that the entire industry is moving in the same direction. Security is no longer based on a single password or a one-time KYC check. It's becoming a system that combines biometrics, trusted devices, live verification, and real-time risk analysis before moving your funds. As AI keeps improving, expect exchanges to invest less in adding more verification screens, and more in making security smarter without making the user experience worse.

➥ $TAO just changed how subnet ownership works. Bittensor has activated Conviction, a governance upgrade that makes subnet ownership more merit-based instead of mostly static. On July 9, 2026, the @opentensor Foundation announced Conviction is fully live. Subnet owners and other participants can now lock alpha tokens toward a hotkey to build a conviction score over time. Basically, the score reflects both how much alpha is locked and how long it stays locked. Before this, a subnet owner could keep control indefinitely after registration, even if their ongoing commitment wasn’t clearly visible on-chain. The interesting part is that Conviction creates a path for ownership to eventually shift to someone with stronger long-term alignment. There are two lock types: • Decaying locks: conviction decreases gradually over time. • Perpetual locks: conviction grows toward a fixed amount and cannot be reversed. If you lock alpha to the current owner’s hotkey, conviction is credited immediately. If you lock to another hotkey, conviction matures gradually. The ownership transfer rule is what makes this meaningful. For subnets that are at least one year old, ownership can transfer automatically if: → Total aggregate conviction reaches at least 10% of SubnetAlphaOut → Another hotkey has the highest rolled-up conviction score The transfer is executed on-chain during an epoch check. This matters because it gives challengers a clear way to compete for control: lock alpha, keep it locked, and build conviction over time. The Covenant AI exit in April 2026 helped push this conversation forward. After several subnets were exited and alpha was sold, participants wanted commitment to be more visible, and harder to unwind suddenly. Current ecosystem snapshot (mid-July 2026): - ~128 active subnets - TAO trading around $206 - Market cap above $2 billion - Subnet ecosystem expanded from ~32 subnets in early 2025 One important clarification: no new token, points system, or airdrop has been officially confirmed in connection with Conviction. Still, this is probably the bigger shift: Ownership is becoming something operators need to keep earning through visible long-term commitment. The better question is whether this creates more stable subnet operators, or whether mature subnets start seeing more ownership challenges. Both are possible, and the outcome depends on how much alpha participants actually choose to lock over time. This update will bring trust back to $TAO
