How it feels to survive the fourth RIF this year as Meta employee

One of the worst parts of corporate life is the completely unnecessary urgency around everything.

Hard to be a Meta employee right now. Morale has to be at all time lows between all the layoffs, tracking software, and the fact you’re training their AI to eventually replace you. But it’s still hard for them to leave for two main reasons: 1: The golden handcuffs. The comp is still top of market. You tell yourself you'll leave after the next vesting cliff. Then suddenly three years have passed and you're still there, still being tracked, still training your replacement. The money's good enough to keep you compliant. 2: The market. You look around and see 150,000 tech workers have been whacked this year. Even if you do land somewhere decent, you're walking into a new org as the newest hire. And we all know what happens to the newest hires when the next round of cuts hits. Last in, first out isn't just a saying for a reason. So you stay and suck it up. You train the AI. You hope you're still valuable enough to outrun the algorithm for one more quarter. Just about as dystopian as it gets.
