@NEHWind I think it's moreso that games evolved so quickly, 7 years before this super Mario World released in Japan. We've stagnated really heavily since then so it's just sort of surreal that in 10 years we achieved 3D so quickly.

I know this is a joke, but it's astonishing how many young idiots believe the 1990's was some kind of wild west, or stone age, where no one knew what they were doing.
Developers had decades of experience and most of the time it showed.

Atleast with community fan-made ones, the process can be done at a reasonable pace alongside development and can still strive for quality.

The difference between a fan one and a localization Toby can't deeply involve himself in is that it will haphazardly wear a label of officiality on it, until inevitably something in it causes some community uproar.
Attacking and ranting on twitter won't improve the situation.

My view on these things sort of adapted a bit, sort of in part because of the continued response by certain people but also just realizing there really isn't a perfect ending for this situation.

It's a shame cause I don't think people are wrong for being annoyed that Deltarune won't have any official translation, Toby Fox totally has the resources and can organize a team to make authentic localizations post release. He's not a AAA company with so many layers that-

@theonewhoknowx t and I will reiterate, just because he has his reasons for not doing that localization, does not miraculously absolve him of public frustration from people who cannot officially play his game in their language.

@theonewhoknowx I feel like you are missing the point, that despite whatever reason Toby has for choosing to avoid localizing the game for certain languages, it doesn't cancel out the reasonable frustration people from those countries have.

@theonewhoknowx Nothing in game development is "inexpensive", and again as I said earlier, if you skimp on the time and money required for a viable aspect of a game's playability, you are subject to critique for that, regardless if that critique comes from a player or fellow dev.

@theonewhoknowx Whatever resources he feels is proper to achieve his artistic vision but localized for another country's culture, much like the sort of resources he devoted to the Japanese localization but with additional assistance so that he can understand it just as well.

@theonewhoknowx I've already talked endlessly about how the situation is annoyingly similar to Mother 3 and other games, it's completely fair to judge Deltarune and Undertale on the same merits I would with any game that has the resources to do these sort of localizations.

@theonewhoknowx Again, as I said in my other post, that is the price you pay to make a game. It's not easy and not always a barrel of fun, it involves a lot of tedious work. If you skip that work, you will suffer the consequences. It doesn't make Toby a bad person, but does open him to complaint

@Repairedhy Exactly, and image that with the added tax of needing to make sure to get around censorship in another country’s, localizing for jokes, spending maybe hours rewriting and deleting dialogue and it comes together to form another year for a new language to be added, on the low end

@theonewhoknowx in the same way that not translating the game will make it harder to play for those who don't speak the available languages. As an artist he's totally allowed to choose how he spends his time, but it doesn't exempt him from criticism of not using that time for something.

@theonewhoknowx If you don't spend that time doing those important things, you unfortunately will find yourself behest to those who point out that you chose not to spend time on that part of the game. If I dont spend the time to bugfix the game, the game will come out worse and harder to play
