Siena sophomore guard Gavin Doty said after the Duke loss last week that "I plan on playing for G-Mac through my whole career." That, and given Doty is from the Syracuse area, not exactly a shock if Doty follows Gerry McNamara to the Orange.

@ThaaFRANchise I love Gerry but did you watch Siena at all this year? They were one of the worst offensive teams in America and they play in a BAD conference. Had they not won the MAAC tourney were not even having this conversation.

Really solid core. Specifically think White and Kingz would thrive under GMac.

Syracuse now early, strong favorites to land Gavin Doty, should he throw his name in the transfer portal. Gerry McNamara absolutely loves the kid. Doty loves playing for him and he’s from Fulton — just 30 minutes north of campus.

If you are a Syracuse fan and you are mad about this after watching Gerry win the MAAC and fight Duke with 5 guys as a 16 seed. Listen to his press conferences and listen to his composure. It is night and day. Gerry was one of the most revered figures in Syracuse basketball history and will be a phenomenal coach for Syracuse. Honestly should have been the coach when Boeheim retired over Autry. Did you all think we were going to get Calipari, or Pitino, who was the better option that you wanted? If you are bitter or butthurt or putting down this cuse news you 1 don’t know basketball and 2 are incredibly unrealistic. This was the right hire at the right time, and Syracuse fans should rejoice that we have a young coach with the talent and potential that @Coach_McNamara brings to the table. I’m excited to welcome him home.

Here’s the disconnect we’re having: You think #Syracuse hired an unqualified coach because he went to the school. I think they got someone they wouldn’t attract otherwise because he went to the school. The “SU type” is not the same job it used to be.

@RobDoug71 @pauliescibilia I’m not trying to discount the impressive play against Duke, but this is the NCAAT where upsets are fairly common. What they did in 1 game against Duke in a tourney setting does not mean they can sustain that level across an entire ACC schedule

If Gerry brings Doty, Folfac, & Moesch. They keep Anthony, Kingz, White, & Freeman. That’s a good start and go after proven players in the portal.

@pauliescibilia I’m sure those 3 guys are coming, Doty and Folefac are starters, day 1. They need to bring in a good PG, I agree with you on trying to bring back Kingz, Kiyan obviously returns. Why keep Freeman? Turn the page, they can get a guy just as good, if not better than Freeman.

@Ianfleming005 @pauliescibilia FYI, don’t forget Moesch chose Siena/Gmac over Providence. Doty was best player on the court 1st half vs. Duke and Folefec held his own vs. Boozer. These kids can play.

One of the first questions that pops to my mind with the GMac news: Will this be the return of Weitsman to Syracuse athletics? Weitsman was heavily involved with Siena basketball when GMac was there Perhaps both GMac and Weitsman return to Syracuse with this news
