A filmy flavor, with a slight dash of politics.

@Darren_Mooney Such a good film. Though maybe my favourite thing about it is it’s the last film ever released with the 20th Century Fox logo

#NowWatching "The Empty Man" It really does feel like one of the great horrors of the post-truth age, capturing the existential anxiety of living in a time where it seems like enough believing something - no matter how insane - can rend the fabric of reality.

@bigkingbadger I'm sure you'll have seen all the big ones that aren't officially part of the strand (Schalcken etc) but I also liked The Lake by Lindsey Vickers which is contained in the short sharp shocks collection are well as the Appointment blu-ray.

Every December i watch classic TV ghost stories. Iam now planning for December 2026. this release is the cheapest easiest way to get the 70s BBC version of a Christmas carol, its got to be adjacent to a ghost story for Christmas, iam scraping the barrel of new things to watch

tried and failed to see MARTY SUPREME in Birmingham this afternoon. 2nd biggest-city in the UK, more than a million people, and this afternoon the damn thing was showing (twice) in just the one smallish room of just the one cinema. bonkers.
Neil Young 1971@BohemiaStable

MARTY SUPREME released in the U.K. tomorrow but somewhat selectively. I'm in Worcester, nearest options are Birmingham, Cheltenham and Stratford. It's on in Newcastle and Gateshead, but not Sunderland or Middlesbrough. Thought it would be everywhere.

Christmas telly and they are showing celebrity escape to the sodding country. Bloody hell.

@Scott_Wortley The film is pretty good! The biggest problem is that it isn't the TV series.

@Scott_Wortley It's watchable enough but it doesn't feel like there's a "war" - needed some wider escalation by now (they make drinking water untouchable for humans etc). Was hoping more for a Children of Earth rather than an expanded mid-series Doctor Who two parter...

@RobGirvan It has been better than I expected. Until the romance. My youngest went ugh and asked for it to be switched off at that bit

The funniest thing about the war between the land and the sea is directing viewers to the underwater menace on the iplayer. NUZZINK IN ZE VURLD CAN STOP ME NOW

@davefranklin I'd be interested to know if folks disliking this stuff also dislike the old Welles interviews where he goes off on directors and actors.

Plus he’s not remotely on social media so he probably doesn’t give any thought whatsoever to how 9000 accounts are going to run with something he said.

I kind of agree with this. My weak defence of QT is that he’s an old school guy who enjoys shooting the shit with his buddy, the way everyone does when they talk about movies. It all seems worse when it gets put down in print.

@Scott_Wortley I'm fascinated by the shadow film industry that pumps these out. Hallmark does over 20 a year alone.

Channel 5 is showing one of those awful films about Christmas. It has a castle, royals, corgis, and dialogue that bears no relation to anything a real person would say. It is amazing.

It is wild to me that you could announce a new "Alien vs. Predator" film tomorrow, and I would be incredibly cynical and disillusioned as the two franchises had just started to gain momentum again. But you tell me David is the co-lead of the next "Predator" film, and I'm all-in.
Darren Mooney@Darren_Mooney

With all the right-wing manosphere nonsense complaining about “Predator: Badlands” from Chuds, I will admit that I’m now imagining a version of the film where Dek finds Michael Fassbender’s David instead of Elle Fanning’s Thia.

@FreddyInSpace My hot take there is that I think a lot of general audiences expecting an out and out horror movie would have come away annoyed.

They used to let us call them Christmas pies. Never heard mince pies being used before the woke. In my house it was always "I don't want a Christmas pie it tastes horrible" not "I don't want a mince pie"
Ben Gilroy@BenGilroyIRL

Tesco can plaster tinsel all over the box, but apparently the word “Christmas” is too risky for their “Merry Mince Pies”. Welcome to the era of corporate tiptoeing so as we don’t offend the murderers and rapists flooding the country. We are doomed. Bah humbug
