This Corridor will significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun and benefit the people of Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. One of the salient features of this corridor is the emphasis on ensuring that man-animal conflict does not occur. प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी मंगलवार को अपने 28 वें दौरे पर उत्तराखण्ड पहुंच रहे हैं। मुख्यमंत्री श्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी के साढ़े चार साल के कार्यकाल में यह उनका 18वां दौरा होगा। प्रधानमंत्री इस दौरान दिल्ली-देहरादून एक्सप्रेसवे के साथ ही टिहरी में 1 हजार मेगावाट क्षमता वाले देश के पहले वेरिएबल स्पीड पंप स्टोरेज संयंत्र का भी लोकार्पण करेंगे। प्रधानमंत्री के आगमन को लेकर उत्तराखण्डवासियों में भारी उत्साह है। प्रदेश सरकार लोकार्पण समारोह को यादगार बनाने की तैयारियों में जुटी है। मई 2014 में प्रधानमंत्री बनने के बाद, नरेंद्र मोदी 11 सितंबर 2015 को उत्तराखण्ड के पहले दौरे पर ऋषिकेश पहुंचे थे। तब उन्होंने दयानंद सरस्वती आश्रम पहुंचकर अपने गुरू दयानंद गिरी से मुलाकात कर उनकी कुशलक्षेम पूछी। भगवान केदारनाथ सहित उत्तराखण्ड के प्रमुख धामों के प्रति भी उनकी गहरी आस्था है। प्रधानमंत्री बनने के बाद श्री नरेंद्र मोदी पांच बार केदारनाथ की यात्रा पर आ चुके हैं, साथ ही बदरीनाथ और मुखबा का भी दौरा कर चुके हैं। प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी उत्तराखण्ड के तीर्थाटन- पर्यटन के ब्रांड अम्बेसडर साबित हुए हैं। प्राकृतिक आपदाओं के चलते केदारनाथ धाम की यात्रा प्रभावित हुई तो प्रधानमंत्री ने श्री केदारनाथ धाम पहुंचकर सुरक्षित चारधाम यात्रा का संदेश देश दुनिया को दिया। प्रधानमंत्री के दौरों के बाद केदारनाथ में श्रद्धालुओं की संख्या अप्रत्याशित ढंग से बढ़ी है। इसी तरह प्रधानमंत्री के पिथौरागढ़ जिले में स्थित आदि कैलाश में पहुंचने के बाद, इस क्षेत्र में भी बड़ी संख्या में श्रद्धालु पहुंच रहे हैं। बीते वर्ष मार्च माह में उत्तरकाशी जिले में मां गंगा के शीतकालीन प्रवास स्थल मुखबा पहुंचकर प्रधानमंत्री ने शीतकालीन यात्रा का संदेश दिया। इससे प्रदेश में शीतकालीन यात्रा के साथ ही बारहमासी पर्यटन को बढ़ावा मिला है। मुख्यमंत्री श्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी का कहना है कि प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी का उत्तराखण्ड से कर्म और मर्म का रिश्ता रहा है। उत्तराखण्ड उनके हृदय में बसता है। उनके दौरे को लेकर देवभूमिवासियों में भारी उत्साह है। मोदी जी के प्रधानमंत्री बनने के बाद उत्तराखण्ड में अनेक महत्वपूर्ण परियोजनाओं को मंजूरी मिली है। दो लाख करोड़ रूपये से अधिक की विकास योजनाएं धरातल पर उतर चुकी हैं। कनेक्टिविटी के क्षेत्र में क्रांति आई है। चारधाम ऑलवेदर रोड परियोजना, ऋषिकेश-कर्णप्रयाग रेल परियोजना, केदारनाथ एवं हेमकुंट साहिब रोपवे परियोजना, देहरादून-दिल्ली एलिवेटेड रोड जैसी बड़ी परियोजनाओं को उन्होंने स्वीकृति दी है। आज पीएमजीएसवाई के तहत दूरदराज ग्रामीण इलाकों में सड़कों के निर्माण के साथ ही हवाई और रेल सेवाओं का विस्तार हुआ है। रोप-वे परियोजनाओं पर तेजी से काम आगे बढ़ा है।

Big success in wildlife conservation on the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor! A joint study by NHAI and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has found that the Wildlife Mitigation Measures implemented along the corridor are proving to be highly effective. The study was conducted on the 18 km Ganeshpur–Asharodi section of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor. A total of 40,444 images of 18 different wildlife species were recorded using underpasses, confirming regular and safe animal movement through these crossings. Kalpakkam Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor attaining criticality is a historic milestone for our civil nuclear program. It is also a testament to our growing domestic capabilities paving the way for nation’s energy security. Congratulate our scientific community, engineers and many contributors on this momentous occasion.

The West poured $50 billion into fast breeder nuclear reactors and abandoned every single one. India poured $900 million and just achieved criticality on the first commercially viable one outside Russia. The US spent $15 billion. Gave up. Japan spent $12 billion. Their Monju prototype had one sodium fire in 1995 and never recovered. The UK spent $8 billion. Germany spent $6 billion. France, Italy, all walked away. Six of the richest nations on Earth concluded this technology was too hard and too expensive to pursue. India started building in 2004 with an initial budget of $420 million. Twenty-two years, a dozen missed deadlines, and a cost doubling later, the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam just sustained a controlled fission chain reaction. The reactor is now alive. The reason India never quit is a constraint most people have never thought about. India has only 1-2% of the world's uranium reserves. For a country of 1.4 billion people trying to build energy independence, that's a death sentence if you're running conventional nuclear. But India has 25% of the world's thorium. The single largest national reserve on Earth. The problem: you can't just burn thorium the way you burn uranium. A physicist named Homi Bhabha designed a three-stage nuclear program in the 1950s specifically to solve this. Stage 1: burn natural uranium in heavy water reactors, collect plutonium as a byproduct. Stage 2: feed that plutonium into fast breeder reactors, where it breeds MORE plutonium AND converts thorium into fissile uranium-233. Stage 3: burn thorium directly at scale. India just entered Stage 2. Seventy years after Bhabha drew it up on paper. The math on the thorium endgame is wild. At current energy consumption rates, India's thorium reserves could power the country for over 700 years. Most nuclear nations are playing a uranium game with maybe 80-100 years of runway. India is playing a completely different game with a 7x longer fuel supply. The West quit because uranium stayed cheap and sodium coolant is terrifying. It catches fire on contact with air. It explodes on contact with water. Russia's BN-600 had 27 sodium leaks and 14 sodium fires between 1980 and 1997. And Russia kept going anyway because Russia doesn't quit nuclear projects. India watched all of that and kept going too. When you have 1% of the uranium but 25% of the thorium, the engineering difficulty stops being a reason to quit. It becomes the price of admission to a 700-year energy supply that nobody else can access.

A great accomplishment! This is a high-tech and powerful reactor, bigger than the Clinch River Breeder the US tried but failed to deliver in the 70s-80s. Breeder technology has long been considered the ultimate goal for nuclear fission. Often demonstrated, not yet done economically.

Today is a historic day. India has entered 2nd stage of our three stage nuclear power program with the achievement of clriticality of PFBR. Congratulations to every contributor to this critical technology that makes India only the second country to operate a large fast reactor.

Today, India takes a defining step in its civil nuclear journey, advancing the second stage of its nuclear programme. The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has attained criticality. This advanced reactor, capable of producing more fuel than it consumes, reflects the depth of our scientific capability and the strength of our engineering enterprise. It is a decisive step towards harnessing our vast thorium reserves in the third stage of the programme. A proud moment for India. Congratulations to our scientists and engineers.
