Here is MP Kuria Kimani lying on national TV to protect an illegal decree.
He claims the CS can drop VAT from 16% to 8% by Gazette Notice because Uhuru did it during COVID. What he hides is the MATH. Uhuru dropped it from 16% to 14% (a 12.5% cut). The law strictly limits the CS to a maximum 25% adjustment. Dropping it to 8% is a 50% cut. It is legally impossible without Parliament.
The Chairman of the Finance Committee is using a legal move from 2020 to justify an unconstitutional trap today. They want the PR of lowering fuel prices tonight, knowing the courts will strike down the illegal decree tomorrow. Do not let his confidence mask his deceit. We see the board. 🥷🏾

I would rather trust markets because they operate on the principles of rewards and failure, the individual(s) who solve problems voluntary get rewarded because the market pays for their goods and services, politicians and bureaucrats rarely pay the price for the outcomes of the decisions they make.

Under the Open Tender System, premiums were under $50. Even early G-to-G premiums were $100. A $254 premium means cartels are skimming roughly Ksh 28 per litre JUST on 'trade margins' before a single tax is applied.
Stop hiding a historic cartel markup behind the Platts index. We aren't arguing about the cost of the oil; we are arguing about the cost of your middlemen.
