This is a good question, and I'll add one to it: what ARE the expectations of the SC baseball fanbase? Can't just be happy with NCAA bids, but probably shouldn't expect six Omaha trips in a ten year span either. In the modern era, where is the reasonable middle ground?

@LBknowsBall Expectations at a minimum were improvement. The program continued to regress with new “hit bottom” vibes on a weekly basis. He didn’t bring the required energy. It was his failure. Not the support of the fans. He was paid more than $1 million/yr to continue his retirement

I will say this, a coach like Paul Mainieri would never survive under the same scrutiny that Shane Beamer faces. Mainieri, a championship coach, mind you, publicly pushing back on criticism after falling short of expectations? It comes off as deflecting accountability more than simply embracing that he failed. In my opinion, he should have been flat out fired. Beamer, on the other hand, operates in a far more volatile environment. But despite consistent external pressure and criticism, he has remained outwardly accountable, consistently owning both shortcomings and outcomes. Makes me respect our other head coaches, both past and present, that much more.

“I think the fans and the media, everybody here was pretty impatient.” Pretty bold to blame others when it was you who took an NCAA Tournament team to the most losses in program history in your first year, then come out the next year and be even worse. But par for the course with that guy.

@HistoryAthletic I believe that would be the best thing that could happen at this point. Let them all go. There has to be a massive improvement recruiting talent. Anybody that stays has to level up multiple levels or we will be sitting in the same place next year
