@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Financially it is exactly either/or. No city can afford to do all three in 10-15 years, even with the best political will, never mind Motor City IE.

@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway In a perfect world we do. But when there is one small pot of money, light rail will take it all for a generation. So in 10 years maybe we have one line serving a fraction of the population and caught in city traffic. Instead of a world class comprehensive bus/bike based system

@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway I can’t agree. Light rail is 10 years away. Ppl need solutions now. Paris and other cities have shown how a radical cycle infra can be delivered in months. A radical bus network in a 2-3 years.

@willix2025 @BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Of course busses are, they work all over Europe. Galway is not a medium city, it is small. Medieval town at its core, unsuited for cars. Cars should be banned from most streets, ped/cycles prioritised and busses only. No Irish city has even tried a proper bus network.

@willix2025 @BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Luas cross city completely degraded cycling in Dublin. And busses are enough. We just refuse to create proper bus networks. As said no city of comparable size has created a tram system for good reasons. Every regional city in Sweden lives with excellent busses and no traffic.

@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Would be the smallest city in Europe with a new light rail. Fantasy. Why not focus on a top notch bus and cycle network.

@RobLooseCannon The stone basins were removed in 2014. Should never have been allowed.

The fountain featured brass decorative taps and drinking cups attached on chains and had a stone basin at the bottom from where some of the cities thousands of horses could drink. The fountain was restored in 1992 and briefly put in storage in 2014 whilst Luas works took place.

Lady Grattan's fountain on the corner of Dawson Street and Stephens Green was built in 1880 and donated to the people of Dublin by Laura Grattan, Henry Grattan's daughter-in-law Access to hygienic drinking water was rare in late 19th century Dublin.

Hello Daithi, The LUAS timetable and Irish Rail time table are completely different. The systems are different and so too are the frequency. If the timetable was to be aligned it would mean a complete rebuild of the frequency on either or both services which is not an option for either operator - Mary.

Almost everyday I watch a group of people get off the train at Broombridge, queue to tag off at the Dart validator, then queue to tag on at the Luas validator and hoping the Luas won't leave while they're doing this. It's pointless in the age of the 90 min fare.
Luas@Luas

Remember that you must Touch On your #TFI Leap Card using a Luas Validator on a Luas Platform before getting on a tram to ensure you have a valid ticket for travel, even when availing of the TFI 90 Minute Fare. See about.leapcard.ie/luas for info.

@think_or_swim @davidmcw The port will need to develop defences then. So one way or the other that area needs big investment.

As @davidmcw waxes lyrical once again about expanding Dublin City by moving the port, news coming through of accelerated collapse of West #Antarctic ice shelf. Maybe this new maritime metropolis should be named ‘Atlantis’?

Really enjoying Joe Pescis 1968 album “Little Joe, sure can sing”. It’s throwaway bubblegum pop, indelibly tinged with the imminent threat of spectacular violence because of his later film roles

Also, I understand he is very fashionable. But I'm old, so to me he looks like an INLA member who's going to H Block for torturing a drug dealer. They all looked like that on the news when I was a child. Minus the shorts

This man claims to be IRISH. No one who is really Irish would ever back a racist, colonialist murder machine. Ireland has had 800 years of colonialism, three attempted gemocides. Maybe mention this to Biden ? PS. Ireland and #Palestine are one. thetimes.co.uk/article/israel…
