Alright kids, buckle up. Here's why BvP is completely, 100% meaningless. Even if you think a certain batter "sees" a certain pitcher well, or his swing plane matches the pitch plane well, or any other plausible explanation for it, the fact is we're dealing with sample sizes too small. And that's not lip service. If a batter is 5-for-10 against a pitcher for a legitimate reason, there will be 10 others just like him that are 5-for-10 by random chance. By trying to be "right" about that one guy, you wind up being wrong about many others. You wind up being less accurate and less profitable if you're trying to use this for betting. You simply can't separate the legitimate guys from the random guys, which makes the entire exercise... yes, meaningless.

@DerekCarty @EricLindquist lol this just reinforces that you have zero ball knowledge. Most of the time BvP is not an important piece in the originating process but it can provide very valuable insight at times. It’s not hard to see thru the noise if you know ball

I feel dumber just reading the replies to @EricLindquist's BvP tweet. BvP is meaningless. It's not "one ingredient." It's not "part of the process." There's no debate. It's nonsense, and so are you if you think it isn't.

I still do not believe in Abbott, and I have their bullpen projected below-average, but my new stuff-based projections actually love Greene and Burns and have their rotation top 5.
