We are excited to share that our team's paper is published in Immunity: "Resident tissue macrophages maintain intraocular pressure homeostasis." This work grew out of a collaboration between glaucoma clinician-scientist Katy Liu MD PhD, glaucoma physiologist W. Daniel Stamer PhD, and immunologist Daniel Saban PhD, bringing together clinical, physiological, and immunological expertise to tackle a long-standing question: does the immune system directly regulate intraocular pressure? The answer is yes. authors.elsevier.com/a/1mkeB3qNrV3V… #Glaucoma #Immunology #ResidentMacrophages #Ophthalmology #Immunity #CellPress cell.com/immunity/fullt…

"A daily multivitamin slows biological aging." That's the headline from a new Nature Medicine paper. From a randomized trial! But when you actually read the data, the vitamin is doing just about nothing. Thread.

@EricTopol If anybody is wondering about omega-3 supplements for prevention of cardiovascular disease, the NIH has an amazing summary about this. Eric is 100% correct, but something to think about for those that do not eat fish or seafood. ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Ome…

Q—What supplement should you take for heart health? A—None washingtonpost.com/wellness/2026/… "The American Heart Association concluded that there is not enough evidence to support the use of any supplements to prevent cardiovascular disease." “There are no adequate data that support cardiovascular benefit for supplements in healthy people who eat a healthy diet" (—me)

Excited to share our new manuscript from the Yoshimatsu and MacDonald labs. biorxiv.org/content/10.648…. We found that my favourite glial cells can regulate local retinoic acid signalling to specialise cone photoreceptors for high acuity vision.

@YoniFreedhoff Yes, yes. But... If you look at the fat/protein content, it should pretty effectively counteract the high glycemic index of the corn starch. If it's an improvement on the original and people were going to eat it anyway... Also has lower sodium.

Over a decade ago, BrightFocus Foundation grant recipient, Dr. Ilyas Washington acted on an unconventional hunch that enriched vitamin A could stop toxic buildup in the eye, a hallmark of macular degeneration. His research led to an oral pill that is now in clinical trials showing promise for slowing vision loss in rare and age-related forms of macular degeneration. Early-stage research funding is how we turn scientific hunches into breakthroughs that preserve sight. Explore the research. ↘️ brightfocus.org/news/early-res…

Below is the story of the first patient treated with a prime-edited therapeutic, developed by @PrimeMedicine in a trial led by Dr. Élie Haddad and his team at CHU Sainte-Justine. This teenager suffered from chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), an immunodeficiency, and now—10 months after treatment—the patient is healthy, stable, and living with a functioning immune system. Tracy Attebury, whose story was previously told by @ginakolata @nytimes, was the second patient treated with a prime-edited therapeutic. cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/54638.html

Fascinating article about the lawsuits against food manufacturers. I think these are doomed to fail because of poor definitions of UPFs and insufficient clinical evidence of their direct harm - the same reasons the DGAC did not directly address them.hls.harvard.edu/today/the-new-…
