Those people tagging me in that post, that Google Career Certificate that Google Africa posted and Sam George quoted has been around since 2020. It started during Covid. There are many platforms like Cybrary, TryHackMe, and edX where you can learn and earn online certifications. This is why you need affordable data so you can stay online and research things like this. That way, a minister cannot take your 100,000,000 GHC and claim he invented something when he has not done anything for people who already have these online certifications.

I received an admission offer from Uppsala University for a Master’s programme in Drug Discovery and Development, a moment I’ve worked toward for years 🎉 My journey into pharmaceutical research hasn’t been accidental. Over time, I’ve actively contributed to research in advanced drug delivery systems, co-authoring three publications focused on microparticle and nanoparticle delivery of polypeptides and proteins. This is more than a career path for me, it’s a calling. I have applied for several scholarships to make this dream possible, including the Swedish Institute Scholarship for 2026, but unfortunately, I was not selected 💔. That opportunity was my strongest hope 😢😔. Today, I’m faced with a difficult reality: I have earned admission, but I do not yet have the financial means to take it. This is why I’m reaching out. If you are an individual, organization, or foundation looking to invest in something meaningful, in someone with a proven commitment to research and impact, I ask for your support 🙏. I believe I have the potential to contribute to life-saving discoveries in areas like cancer, HIV, and chronic diseases. But more personally, I am driven by a loss. I lost my brother to complications related to metabolic disease, and since then, I have committed my life to researching conditions like diabetes and obesity, not just to understand them, but to help find lasting solutions. This opportunity at Uppsala University is a critical step toward that goal. If you have the capacity to support, or can connect me with someone who does, I would be deeply grateful. Every form of support brings me one step closer to turning this dream into impact. I have attached my admission notification below for verification. If you’d like to support or collaborate, please let me know so that I can reach out to you via DM or email 🙏 @AskMichaelTaiwo @winexviv @DONJAZZY

Behind that ranger sits part of 105 tonnes of ivory worth roughly $150 million on the black market. Days after this photo, Kenya soaked the lot in jet fuel and burned it. Critics warned it would backfire. A decade on, ivory prices have crashed and poaching is at a 20-year low. The piles held the tusks of around 7,000 elephants and the horns of 343 rhinos. It was the biggest ivory burn in history. The full stockpile was about 5 percent of all the ivory sitting in African government storerooms at the time. Kenya's entire annual environment budget was smaller than what they were about to set on fire. The argument against burning was simple. Cut the supply, push up the price, poachers come back harder. One conservation economist compared the move to Iraq going offline during the Iran-Iraq war, when oil prices spiked. Burn $150 million of ivory and the same shock should hit. None of that happened. Raw ivory in China peaked at around $2,100 per kilogram in 2014. Then Kenya burned its stockpile in April 2016, China shut its legal ivory market in December 2017, and similar bans rolled through the US, Europe, and elsewhere. The price broke. By 2020, the going price across Africa had fallen to about $92 per kilogram. In Kenya specifically, what a poacher could get for a kilo of raw tusk dropped from $190 in 2014 to $52 by 2018. Inside China, the share of people saying they would ever buy ivory fell from 43 percent before the ban to 18 percent by 2020. The bet was based on an old number. A 2014 Sheldrick Wildlife Trust study found that one live elephant brings in around $23,000 a year in tourism revenue. Across a 70-year lifespan, that is roughly $1.6 million. Its tusks, ripped out, sell for around $21,000. That is the 76-to-1 ratio that gets thrown around in conservation circles. Kenya runs around 10 percent of its economy on tourism today, almost all of it built around live wildlife. The numbers since have backed the call. The UN's 2024 wildlife crime report says the global ivory market is shrinking, with seizures and poaching both down. A 2024 Colorado State study found African elephant numbers fell 77 percent on average between 1964 and 2016. After 2016, things turned. Forest elephant decline slowed from 7 percent a year to under 1. Savanna elephant poaching is at its lowest level since global tracking started in 2003. The ranger in this photo is guarding ivory Kenya was about to destroy on purpose. Within four years, the market for what he was guarding had collapsed.

Around 2012, I was struggling to find my place in tech. Then Facebook posted a photo of its engineering team and I saw a Black engineer who looked like me. I later learned he was Nigerian. His name was Ola. That moment made the dream feel possible. I kept that photo as my screensaver for 3+ years. Every time I felt like quitting, I reminded myself:
“If he can do it, why not me?” Today, @ola works at OpenAI. And after 14 years, I finally get to meet him. You never know who’s watching you…
Or whose life you’re changing just by showing up.

Today is the start of a very important day in the AI world... the trial between Elon and Sam/OpenAI begins today in Oakland Federal Court. The jury selection is happening right now in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and opening arguments are expected Tuesday. The civil jury trial is projected to last 2-4 weeks, with Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers making the final call. So let me tell you why this fight all came about. 1/ In 2015 Elon co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman and others as a nonprofit to develop artificial general intelligence safely and openly for the benefit of all humanity... this was supposed to NOT be for profit or for closed corporate control. Elon was a major early funder, contributing around $38-44 million (~60% of early seed funding) plus resources like compute and recruiting. 2/ Then, Elon left the board in 2018 over disagreements for the direction of the company and Microsoft’s growing role of the company. 3/ Later, OpenAI took billions from Microsoft, restructured with a for-profit arm, initially “capped profit,” now more commercial... went closed-source in practice, and exploded in value with ChatGPT. FYI, the current valuation of OpenAI now sits at ~$852 billion and the company recently completed restructuring with a for-profit entity reporting into a nonprofit foundation. Now, with the trial, Elon is saying Altman, Brockman, and OpenAI breached the founding charitable trust and agreement by turning it into a “wealth machine” that prioritizes profits and insiders over the original mission. He claims they deceived him about their plans... This lawsuit was originally filed in November 2024, was withdrawn, and then revived in early 2026. And just this Friday, April 24, Elon voluntarily dropped the fraud claims to “streamline” the case and keep the jury focused on the mission issue... proceeding on breach of charitable trust and unjust enrichment. This is what Elon is looking to get back from Sam and OpenAI: a/ substantial damages, with stakes in the $100B+ range, with many reports saying it's in the range of ~$134B and the winnings will be given to the nonprofit/charity arm and will NOT benefit Elon personally b/ possible unwinding/restructuring to restore the original nonprofit mission c/ leadership changes (e.g., getting rid of Altman/Brockman from key roles). On the other side, OpenAI is claiming: a/ Elon knew about and once supported commercialization steps, saying he even explored merging with Tesla or gaining control himself b/ OpenAI calls the suit competitive sabotage from rival Elon's company xAI and says this is driven by jealousy over OpenAI’s success This is SUCH an important trial in the world of AI... people may not fully understand. The reason is bc Elon has repeatedly warned that profit-driven, closed-source AGI is very dangerous. This is his chance to enforce the original “benefit humanity” mission he helped create and walked away from in 2018. A big win will hurt OpenAI’s valuation, upcoming IPO plans, Microsoft partnership, and market dominance/customer perspective of the company... and this will also force real changes in how the world’s leading AI lab operates, influencing the entire AI race and future regulations. For me, Sam Altman straight up CANNOT be trusted with the future of AGI, and this trial proves why Elon was right to fight it. This is the same guy who got fired by his own board in 2023 for not being “consistently candid,” then crawled back in and turned the nonprofit “open for humanity” promise into a closed-source, Microsoft-bankrolled profit machine worth hundreds of billions. Elon was the one who put up the early cash and vision to keep AI safe and beneficial for all of us... not to create a trillion-dollar insider club. If Altman gets away with rewriting the rules after the fact, it sets a dangerous precedent that mission-driven tech is just marketing fluff. I believe Elon isn’t doing this for ego or rivalry... he’s really doing it bc someone has to hold the line before profit-over-people AGI becomes unstoppable. This one’s personal for the man who actually wants to understand the universe instead of just cashing in on it. Humanity needs Elon to win. And that's who I'm rooting for!
