RE: Stacked Diffs on @GitHub
After discussion w @ttaylorr_b, we can implement stacked PRs/PR groups already (in fact we kind of do with Copilot) but restacking (automatically fanning out changes from the bottom of the the stack upwards) would be wildly inefficient. To do it right, we need to migrate @GitHub to use git reftables instead of packed-refs so that multi-ref updates / restacking will be O(n) instead of ngmi.
This will take some time but has been greenlit.

@ankurnagpal Guide. You should create a GPT or something for it so that folks can ask ChatPT questions about it

After 4 incredible years, I have made the difficult decision to leave @Vercel.
My teams have accomplished so much during this time.
We transformed @turborepo from my solo project into the defacto monorepo build system in TypeScript. The @aisdk evolved from a handful of code

@kate_rouch Thanks for sharing. Sorry you’re going through this. Glad the prognosis is excellent!

Exciting News: I am joining @Replit to lead product development!
A couple months ago, I started using Replit for my own AI driven coding projects and it was immediately clear that AI is going to enable the next billion programmers. And Replit made it so easy. I have decades of programming experience but I’d rather use Replit to spin up new ideas. I was full on Replit-pilled.
I visited the Replit office to share ideas about what kinds of UIs might be possible for AI driven development. The energy there felt like the energy among the close knit group of people that I created ReactJS with at early Facebook. It’s hard to describe but everyone I know from that era has been chasing that high. This was the place to be.
The definition of “programmer” is going to evolve rapidly. We have not yet discovered the optimal UI paradigm for generating software using AI. It’s going to take determined, open minded people to discover it.
Join me at Replit if you want to help discover what the future of building software looks like for the next billion developers.

the memory implementation in chatgpt is really good! i'm impressed.
i think there's a bit of uncanniness for me b/c i previously used it as stateless google equivalent, so having the memory retroactively applied by default feels a bit odd. I'm not sure how I want chatgpt perceiving me yet, and theres a large amount of chats i would probably retroactively exclude. i know i can tell it to "forget", but it feels a little less good to have it "forget" things b/c its clear that it has the capacity to remember them in the first place, and the forgetting is probably a manual instruction that doesn't preclude that data being fetched, just being referenced in answers.
if chat uses its memory of me to personalize future recommendations or change the way it speaks to me, i want to know *which* evidence its using to make the assumption, & when things are personalized vs when things are not. sometimes the personalization is great! sometimes i'd just like the stateless google equivalent back.
one thing we noticed building dot is that the knowledge of it having memory altered how we interacted w/ the product. if we wanted to search some oneoff thing that someone mentioned, we often wouldn't do it in Dot b/c we didn't want that "polluting" dot's memory.
so the existence of chat's memory will probably change when i open chatgpt vs when i open claude or gemini in the future. i know in theory you can toggle it. in practice i feel like the mental load of toggling vs not toggling will just lead me to open another model for "private" stuff.
i feel like the way i might have gone about this rollout is trying to detect the user's desired relationship with chatgpt first, and then tailoring memory to that relationship. e.g. have a "memory unboxing" simulated step ( i say simulated b/c its referencing past chat history, so i dont even think theres background stuff being indexed ), where the user can view possible memory categories coming into view and select the ones they're interested in using going forward. that would give the feeling of "opt-in" rather than "opt-out" to the user. i might even have a detail view where the memory categories can link to specific prior threads, and i can easily uncheck threads that i want to become retroactively private & unfetchable. perhaps then when i start talking in a new thread the category is auto-matched to one i want to track or not track, and i can easily see if it plans to index this chat in memory going fwd or not, without manually toggling it.
these are all hard problems though! maybe most people don't care as much :)

Ok, so ChatGPT is convinced that I am Ruchi (@rsanghvi ).
I have NEVER told ChatGPT about Ruchi.
I have very tried hard to convince it that I am actually Aditya but it keeps on reverting.
Stuck in a Nietschzian nightmare here.
