they want to bolt an AI data center to the side of your house.
not a joke. a California startup called Span is teaming up with Nvidia to mount these compute boxes on exterior walls of homes and small businesses. theyโre called XFRA units - silent, liquid-cooled, running Nvidiaโs Blackwell RTX PRO 6000 GPUs - and they tap unused electrical capacity already sitting on your local grid.
the numbers are nutz. Span says 8,000 of these boxes can be deployed 6x faster than building a traditional 100MW data center, at one fifth the cost. theyโre already testing with PulteGroup - one of the biggest homebuilders in the US - on new construction communities.
I get why this exists. AI compute demand is absolutely crushing the grid right now. centralized data centers take years and billions to build. this flips it - spread the load across thousands of homes instead of stacking it in one industrial park. ocean-based and space-based data centers are also being talked up, so this is a real race for who cracks distributed compute first.
but yeah, not everyoneโs gonna love a server box mounted where the kids play. public reaction is gonna be the real test here, not the tech.
BTC is sitting at $80,610 USD / CA$109,738 right now and honestly the chartโs got my attention. price is stacked above all three key moving averages - 7, 14, and 30 day - which is a textbook bull setup. funding rate just flipped slightly negative which means shorts are piling inโฆ and longs are getting paid to hold. thatโs usually when the squeeze comes.
