Roblox just clarified that “highly engaged players” are determined by recent platform spend. That completely changes the context of this update. This was never just about engagement. The current requirements need to be reviewed.

One of the best things about Roblox was that anyone could genuinely build something from nothing. That’s how our studio, Skeptic Softworks, started. I understand why Roblox introduced “highly engaged” metrics, but I hope future indie devs still get the same shot we did.

@_rezzies A lot of Roblox’s biggest games started with random small devs. Updates like this would’ve stopped those games before they even had a chance. It’ll be interesting to see what this means for the future of Roblox and whether new indie creators can still realistically break through

@SkepticSoftwork They probably will the requirements are basically impossible unless you spend 200k+ on ads,, but there’s always a 50% chance Roblox doesn’t care so 😍 exciting

Hopefully Roblox reconsiders the new requirements for publishing games to all users. 500 highly engaged players feels unnecessarily high, especially for smaller developers. Roblox has always been a platform where anyone could create games, regardless of popularity and budget.

Roblox telling developers they need 500 highly engaged users before their game can grow is like telling a startup they need customers before they can advertise. Changes like this only make it harder for small developers to succeed on the platform.
