Big news folks: our latest paper is now available in JBM! ๐ŸŽ‰ Can't fully express how excited I am. In addition to providing the 1st insights into TAM in Bacteroidota, this work represents the completion of my postdoc in the wonderful lab @CCanimorsus I'm so proud! ๐Ÿ’ช

I don't understand how a senior author on this paper thinks this problem can be resolved by sending in a new figure. He wrote: "None of the conclusions of the manuscript are affected by these errors." I hope that @ASH_hematology takes a stronger stand. pubpeer.com/publications/0โ€ฆ

We have also published an interesting article on the use of my beloved enzyme ๐Ÿ˜ E coli GadB (glutamate decarboxylase) to synthesize homohypotaurine, a promising candidate to protect endothelial cells and cardiomycytes from cytotoxic compounds, as H2O2 mdpi.com/1420-3049/29/1โ€ฆ

Understanding the difference between Standard Deviation (SD) and Standard Error (SE) is crucial for accurate data interpretation. SD measures the variability within your data, indicating how spread out the individual data points are from the mean. In contrast, SE measures the uncertainty around the sample mean as an estimate of the population mean. It reflects the precision of the mean, with SE decreasing as the sample size increases, making your estimate more reliable. The relationship between SD and SE is given by the formula: SE = SD / โˆš(sample size). While SD remains relatively constant with larger samples, SE diminishes, highlighting the reduced uncertainty in the mean estimate. A common mistake in research is using the โ€œยฑโ€ notation without specifying whether it refers to SD or SE, leading to potential misinterpretation of the data. Clear distinction is essential for transparency and accuracy in reporting. Key Takeaways: โ€ข Use SD to describe data variability. โ€ข Use SE to indicate the precision of the mean. โ€ข Always specify which measure you are reporting.
