We continued our learning and fun today on Earth day by planting the hamburger garden we received from @Patterson_Farm. Our renovated @RSSMillbridge Discovery garden is starting to take shape! #growinggreatmusketeers

Such a great time yesterday on our students’ FIRST field trip adventure! @Patterson_Farm did a fabulous job teaching us about natural resources and our students got to be farmers for a day! @RSSMillbridge

We had such a great time participating in a @gregtangmath lesson! This was a front loading lesson for us and will hopefully allow us to jump right in when we return without spring break “brain recovery”. My students were so engaged! Thanks @AbbyKCovington for sharing with us.

@carol_nav11 @DiFraiaLauri @jonesy2794 @gregtangmath @Fiona_Foley I used to teach my second graders this method as well. We talked about having 2 but needing 4. They could give those 2, but still needed 2 more. Or having 50 but needing 60, thus they still needed 10 more. This was after concrete models. They had solid understanding!

@DiFraiaLauri @jonesy2794 @gregtangmath @Fiona_Foley Yes it always works. My 2nd graders love this. I still want 2nd graders to write in expanded form first, and never let them call it 5 - 6. I tell them to call it what it really is (50-60).

Is this great or what? Subtraction with regrouping is NOT about trading. Trading means kids are using Base 10 blocks – the wrong manipulative. Also means they do not have the necessary pre-requisite skill: subtracting within 20. To do Gr 2 skills, kids need Gr 1 skills!

Fun times is first grade today with #rockyourschool @RSSMillbridge . We rocked out our nature/outdoors theme with: birdseed letter ornaments, writing digraphs the OG way using birdseed, learning about animal camouflage, flashlight fort reading, and a s’mores word problem snack.
