SUPERGIRL writer Ana Nogueira was not randomly pulled off the street and handed a $175 million superhero movie. She came from acting and theater, wrote acclaimed plays, and was initially hired under the old Warner Bros. regime to develop a completely different SUPERGIRL movie starring Sasha Calle. That movie died with the old DCEU. Her previous deal expired, she had a child, and when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over, she had to compete for the job again like any other freelance writer. Executive producer Chantal Nong Vo continued backing her, DC liked her work, and Nogueira ultimately landed the new SUPERGIRL before being assigned TEEN TITANS and WONDER WOMAN. But now we know she is not protected by some massive multi-picture contract. She is working project to project. That changes the conversation. If SUPERGIRL underperforms or fails to connect, DC can quietly reconsider those future assignments without technically firing anyone or breaking a larger deal. That is simply how Hollywood operates. It does not mean Nogueira lacked experience or never earned the opportunity. Clearly, multiple people at Warner Bros. believed in her writing across two different regimes. But somewhere between a highly praised screenplay and the finished movie, something appears not to have passed the sniff test with audiences. Will DC stand behind its creative team, or start quietly reshuffling those future projects?
