Checking a claim, refilling a prescription, or messaging your care team used to mean jumping between systems.

The team at Spokane’s Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center honors all Veterans, with a special tribute this week for National Medal of Honor Day on Wednesday, March 25th. Established in 1949, the Spokane VA Medical Center was renamed in 2013 to the Mann-Grandstaff VAMC in honor of Army PFC Joe Mann, MoH – WWII and Army PSgt Bruce Grandstaff, MoH – Vietnam War, who both made the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow soldiers and for freedom. This name change was made possible by members of the local Spokane Historical Society, who organized the renaming event on campus during a warm August afternoon in 2013. Family members and friends, including former Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Army General Eric Shinseki, attended the event, with some traveling from as far as Belgium where PFC Mann sacrificed his life fighting in WWII. The Mann-Grandstaff VAMC proudly serves all Veterans, including other living Medal of Honor recipients from Spokane and the Inland Northwest, such as Army SSgt Ty Carter, who earned the Medal of Honor in 2009 in Afghanistan. SSgt Carter was later honored during a special ceremony at Spokane’s North Central High School, where both he and PSgt Grandstaff attended before their service in the U.S. Army. Today, we recognize National Medal of Honor Day and honor the extraordinary courage of those who have received our nation’s highest award for valor.
Since its establishment in 1861, more than 3,500 service members have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Each recipient represents a legacy of sacrifice, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to others.
We honor these heroes and remain grateful for the example they set for all who serve.

VA is speeding up community care scheduling for eligible Veterans.
The new External Provider Scheduling is live at every VA facility, allowing staff to see providers’ calendars and book appointments faster. VA can use that information to book appointments that fit a Veterans’ schedule.
The tool can boost scheduling from just a handful of appointments a day to as many as 25.
27,000 providers in 78 specialties are already part of the program, with more expected to join this year.

“These grants invest directly in communities that know Veterans best and are often the first to recognize when someone is struggling,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “They have been successful in connecting Veterans, service members, and their families — especially those not yet engaged with VA — to services that help reduce suicide risk and promote well-being.”
