This is the natural extension of the things that @threepointone / @dillon_mulroy / etc have been showing off with DO filesystems and dynamic workers + code mode. A container or VM is great, but you probably don’t need it for most of your agent activity.

Your agents are largely searching and editing a file system. You do not need a full OS to achieve this. Tokens are already expensive, and your infrastructure should be as efficient as possible rather than a second cost center. The minimal viable environment will win.

Fully-featured sandboxes are hip right now but the alpha for agents goes deeper than the security angle. More thoughts about this currently in the works, but the compute primitives @Cloudflare has been putting out are getting the 95% case more correct.

The new M5 Pro/Max MacBooks have 3 Thunderbolt 5 ports, enabling you to create RDMA clusters with up to 4 MacBooks. The latency with RDMA over Thunderbolt is single digit microseconds, fast enough for tensor parallelism with close to linear scaling.
