Secret meeting - DC Council Chair Mendelson just closed public breakfast meeting - to talk in private about biggest issue of the day - CFO’s decision to block spending $180 million (and more) because of a dispute w/congress over council decoupling some city taxes from federal.

Thank you to @DCShawTea and @CMBrookePinto for coming to the rescue quickly tonight. Some neighbors and I were struggling to clear these curb cuts for our neighbors in wheelchairs to access 9th/M st NW. A quick call and a couple of hours later, this intersection is much safer!

What an exciting moment to see our neighborhood’s Shaw Heritage Trail sign back! It was removed over 2 yrs ago w/o notice & dearly missed by our neighbors. Our community is rich in Black history and deserves to be celebrated. I’ve been asking for this & glad to see some results!

Wages are stagnant. Rent through the roof. Degrees don’t pay. No benefits you can raise a family on. & DC Council still plays games with I-82 instead of respecting voters & workers. Workers carry our city & get crushed for it. I’ll always stand with you. Solidarity forever! 💪🏻

I later organized my workplace with @CWAUnion because management ignored us, underpaid us, and treated us like we were disposable. We built a union, forced them to the table, and won respect on the job. That fight showed me what worker power really means.

It should not be controversial to say that workers in DC deserve: ↪️ protection from wage theft ↪️ overtime pay for overtime work ↪️ minimum wage protections ↪️ paid sick leave ↪️ paid family leave ↪️ pay transparency ↪️ no noncompete clauses ↪️ safety and dignity at work As OAG, we will keep fighting to make these rights a reality for all workers in DC by enforcing them.
