Can someone explain to me in plain English why there is sewage spewing into the Potomac River and no one has stopped it and apparently cannot stop it? All the news stories are just about e. coli and not like, why this is happening

@conorjrogers Because 1/3 of DC is combined sewer system, wastewater entering the river is actually very common after a big storm. But DC Water has been working hard to lessen this w/ their $10B Clean Rivers project, including the Northeast Boundary Tunnel (open) & Potomac River Tunnel (2030)

@conorjrogers …Photo here is of dry creek bed where overflow first occurred. Can see toilet paper/wastewater remnants. Next time it rains and the creek is filled, this could go into the river. Similar issue with ice melting that may contain the bacteria… think slow release
