Officers located him inside a vehicle at a Best Western. Officers repeatedly ordered Coleman-Canady and the driver to exit the car. The driver complied and was detained without incident, but Coleman-Canady remained in the passenger seat. Coleman-Canady told officers he intended to harm himself rather than return to prison. Moments later, a single gunshot was heard. Coleman-Canady had a prior conviction in September 2021 for robbery resulting in bodily injury in LaPorte County, resulting in felony status.
