This plane is a US Air Force E-3 Sentry strategic aircraft; the USA has only 16 of these.

This plane was on the taxiway. One has to wonder if it was trying to escape and thus occupied by at least a pilot and co-pilot. We need to drill down on that. Also, indicates sophisticated targeting if so. Terminal guidance was solid or real time.

@TheIntelFrog The E-3's are old. They are currently being replaced- 11 so far- by the more advanced E-2D Hawkeyes while the permanent replacement E-7s are being built.

The fleet is now down to 15, with 5 more deployed into CENTCOM, and there isn't a replacement even in production yet for this aircraft. It is possible that DoD could regenerate a recently retired air frame from the boneyard.
