@gmiller I don't think people expect that data center jobs replace the jobs lost to AI. The issue with AI goes deeper than that.

Fun facts about data center jobs: A 1-billion watt AI data center can cost about $35 billion to build, covering 10 million square feet, using about 5,000 temporary construction workers for 1-3 years. But once it's up and running, it'll employ only about 500 people. That's about as many as two Walmart stores. By contrast, the Ford Highland Park Plant automobile factory in Detroit (operating 1910-1974) was 4 million square feet, and employed about 50,000 workers. If you think big facilities automatically mean lots of jobs, you're not understanding just how automated these data centers are. AI lobbyists often promise that data centers will 'create lots of permanent new jobs'. Politicians funded by the AI industry echo these promises. Both are lying to you.

We don't need a Wealth Tax, we need a 100% tax on all wealth above a certain amount. Lets say $100m, that's more than enough. We need to outlaw outrageous wealth, not just try reduce it a bit. Billionaires are a danger to everything and everyone. As you can clearly see.

@TPV_John Why would the Mullahs (the ones that are left) hesitate to attack civilians? In their view, isn't it good for people to die in Jihad? As for Israel, is it only acceptable to have allies as long as they don't actually need help?

Let me break this down for you… When they say “Death to America” that REALLY means “Death to the American government which has been subverted by Zionism, and is doing the dirty work of Israel by attacking countries in the Middle East.” NOT death to innocent Americans who want NOTHING to do with this endless BS. What part about that are you struggling with?

If you have the basic skills to participate in the discourse at all — like you can read and comprehend a New York Times article in order to complain about it — you’re in a weird, out of touch, elite bubble. slowboring.com/p/in-defense-o…

You need at least 50% utilization for public transit. Which corridors in US do you think can realistically achieve that? There's a way to build infrastructure in a more esthetically pleasing way. There's also a way to avoid areas that are of particular value. The issue I'm talking about it the socialist penchant for crude development, lack of taste, and lack of sense in general. Of course, you can find a lot of this mentality all around the world, including in the US. To wit, there are socialists everywhere.

@ThrdView @XH_Lee23 Sorry China isn’t going to remain underdeveloped so you can vicariously enjoy their “pretty scenery”. This looks like a great balance of environment and modern infrastructure to me unlike the 20 lane highways and no public transit of the USA

@emmasarchivee The most beautiful is by definition exclusive. That's what "the most" means. Nobody expects every woman to be the most beautiful. Nobody expects every house to be Sistine Chapel.

I find this genetic stuff way too superficial. You form a legacy by giving love and wisdom to your children. Don't get stuck on bloodlines. Tolkien: "Kings made tombs more splendid than houses of the living, and counted old names in the rolls of their descent dearer than the names of sons."

Hey men, if having a genetic legacy is important to you, I have some bad news: Men don’t. Ever. Only women do. Literally.

@MalcangiSarah I would actually agree. Women should do this. Make it a social norm. We should collectively shun porn into oblivion and we'd all benefit immensely. Morality is the foundation of civilization.

This is a common misunderstanding. Billionaires are commonly just people who's startup succeeded in a big way. They own shares in their companies that grew exponentially in value because that's what other people are willing to pay for them. They don't actually have a billion dollars in their bank account and they often don't care that much about making more money. They want the company to be successful. Greed, I suppose, is more prevalent in the financial sector. A hedge funder or an investment banker convinces himself that he's making money for his clients. But the money is often made in largely unproductive ways. Clever tricks to arbitrage and skim while riding the waves up and down. The point is really just to make more money. I'd argue that their gambling shouldn't be backstopped by the Fed.

@MaryRuwart See here's a problem: Property rights need to be enforced. By whom? Government is always a bit of a racket. The more virtuous the people, the smaller the government can be.

@AlanRMacLeod People have different fates. Of course, that doesn't mean you should enslave others. You should treat others well. But that also doesn't mean some won't end up vastly better off than others.
