What a day! The Switch 2 is exactly what I expected - an improved Switch. Videos coming soon, but here’s a quick summary of some thoughts. It feels great to hold. Sturdier, bigger, more premium. The display is phenomenal. It’s bright and vivid. Games look great on it. Cyberpunk 2077 was a real standout. Seeing this game run on the Switch doesn’t look and feel like a shameless port. It’s got some high-end settings enabled. Clear upscaling at work on handheld, but it was very smooth. If anything, it might be the real visual showcase for the console. Docked mode was also good. But handheld 👌🏻. Donkey Kong Bananza was likely my favourite demo. Seeing Donkey Kong in 4K on the TV made me happy that Nintendo has finally entered the 4K chat. But both Zelda games also hold up. Immediately, the 60FPS boost feels fantastic. Very excited to replay both games. And probably only in handheld because again, that screen is magic. I’m not entirely sold on the mouse functionality of the Switch 2. It just didn’t feel satisfying enough. Played Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and it was a cool feeling to aim with the joy-con, but shooting and triggering moves while doing so felt cumbersome. My long fingers also got in the way and resulted in the controller tilting over. I feel like there has to be some extra attachment here that adds more surface area to the Joy-Con when in mouse mode. Will make it more stable and perhaps easier to grip. I wish Nintendo added new paddle buttons to the Joy-Con 2. Both the Pro Controller and the grips have additional paddle buttons, but the handheld mode doesn’t. Feels like a missed opportunity, IMO. It was too loud to test out the speakers of the system, but I could hear everything I played quite clearly. The Welcome Tour is a fun game. Would pay $9 for it. Loads to do. Everything also felt like a well-thought-out way to showcase the tech. Mario Kart World is also very fun. Tracks aren’t just around and around. The start-to-finish design means races are quite long and quite exciting. Can’t wait for 5 June. #Switch2
