I do not know how it works for a minor, but an adult child is sadly placed with this and have to get an attorney to help them get through it

That happens more commonly when two people are married with combined finances. The state will send all of his assets and debt to probate. That is the first stop.

Unfortunately know someone who just went through this and the dad was never in the kid life. Next of kin took over now they’re fighting the debt

@TorianFields @raphousetv2 A girlfriend cannot take over an estate if her male companion dies without leaving a will. State laws determine who inherits an estate if a man dies without making a will and those laws generally exclude his girlfriend.

@Mr_handsome718 @raphousetv2 This is again is not true. A legal will notarized and reviewed by an attorney would grant the individual the estate. You do not have to be siblings, family or married to receive an estate in a death benefit. What licenses do you hold to even provide this information?
