A 14-year-old Arizona boy is being recognized as a hero after helping an elderly woman with dementia who was found wandering alone in temperatures exceeding 100°F in Gilbert, Arizona. Royal Cothrun was riding his bike when he noticed 76-year-old Teresa Morgan looking confused and distressed in the extreme heat. Instead of passing by, he stopped to check on her, helped her get into the shade, and calmly spoke with her until she was able to remember her son’s phone number. Royal called her son, who arrived just before first responders. Teresa had recently been diagnosed with dementia and had wandered miles from home after becoming disoriented following a trip to a grocery store.
