NEW!! NATO chief says, weapons still flowing to Ukraine, despite reports that US is considering diverting weapons to the Middle East. "The โ€‹critical support from the United States into Ukraine paid โ€‹for by โ allies continues to โ flow," Rutte says

@slantchev I said this when Trump won the last election, I will repeat it: The USA will end up stopping any support for Ukraine, and selling weapon components to Russia. Not full systems, but critical components. Mark my words.

And now, the incompetent corrupt US administration that is peddling โ€œsecurity guaranteesโ€ against a future Russian aggression by demanding that Ukraine make enormous concessions to the current Russian aggression is also blackmailing Ukraine by threatening to steal weapons we already sold it through the PURL initiative. The way we are going, we will be establishing Lend-Lease for Russia by the summer and threatening to jointly attack Kyiv by the fall.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Zelensky: We in Europe need to have the full capability to produce all types of air defense systems and missiles for them. In particular, means of protection against drones, cruise missiles and ballistics. We cannot rely on the military-industrial complex of other partners. We must be confident in our own base here in Europe. Please let us continue this work and accelerate it. And while we are building this capacity, please remember that we need protection against Russian missiles every day. And I am grateful to those of you who actively support us within the PURL. This is extremely important.

Untrustworthy as a weapons supplier within NATO. F35 contract with Canada is one step closer to falling over the cliff. Gripens are a better choice as a northern interceptor for NORAD commitments, however the rest of the fleet for NATO is at risk because of the U.S. itself.
Illia Ponomarenko ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ@IAPonomarenko

I mean, how the hell is this even legal? Was it part of the contract that the seller is entitled to say โ€œscrew you and the money you've paid us, we're talking these weapons for ourselvesโ€?

@JSchneid99 @amanpour We know, but reality is that nobody outside of the US counts the votes. Do you count how many voted for Orbรกn b4 saying Hungary does this or that? Again, nothing personal ๐Ÿ‘.

@TrueGradient @amanpour I agree, the stain of dump will definitely outlive me and likely my children. But we have to start somewhere. For what it's worth, it wasn't half of the country that voted dump in - it was a plurality. But it pains me that we had so many bigots vote for a bigot.

@anders_aslund The really important piece now is, how serious is the rest of NATO (the US is essentially out it) about Art 5? New NATO, ironclad commitment: if the Baltics are attacked, the rest respond militarily. Otherwise, get out. And weapons production in overdrive, now.

No NATO country can believe in Article 5 after this Trump statement. Trump has effectively ended the ultimate objective of NATO. Only the organization remains.

@JSchneid99 @amanpour Here in ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ, Americans have been friends and family forever. We did love you guys. But something is broken now. That crazy half of your country is doing all this in your name, showing your flag. That stain will not go away in 222 days. Truly sorry๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ.

@jimsciutto Jim, time to spell it as it is: we (Canada/Europe/SK/Japan/Taiwan/Australia) are not US allies anymore. We have been dumped. US allies today: Russia - Belarus - NK - Israel - Gulf states. Those are the guys you hang with.

What is the strategic consistency in appeasing Russia while it threatens Europe and going to war with Iran as it threatens the Mideast? Each is surrounded by U.S. allies and each has attacked U.S. allies. Moreover, Russia is aiding Iran in the war, including providing intel to attack U.S. forces.

@atrupar "The island that the UK was very afraid to give us". Skip the obvious - Trump is as ignorant as they come, and proud of it. The UK was not "giving" DG to the US. Issue is, how can a person that doesn't even start to understand the problems choose the right solutions?

@Dr_M_Davis Not just NATO. If Trump is not willing to comply with Art 5, what makes South Korea, Japan or Australia think that their own agreements are secure? ANY agreement with the US, for that matter.

I suspect that weโ€™re seeing the end of US involvement in NATO. Article 5 can no longer be assumed to be secure. #Putin will be emboldened to become more aggressive along #NATOโ€™s eastern frontier and escalate #Russiaโ€™s hybrid warfare against the Alliance. This is how the next war in Europe begins.

@Dr_M_Davis A NATO country has been attacked multiple times and yet the rest if the alliance does nothing. That is why NATO is dying. So when Turkey was attacked and the rest of NATO did nothing, that is why NATO doesn't matter.

@Teoyaomiquu ๐Ÿ’ฏ Taurus was a "game changer" in 2023-24 bc Ukraine didn't have medium-range attack capabilities. Now they're developing their own, and at better cost. A partnership benefits both sides.

If you ask us which one we pick: 1) financing our homegrown strike drone capabilities without stirring things up inside German political landscape 2) giving us the Taurus stockpile equivalent in cost We would chose 1. We understand political decisions cost politicians their seats and new politicians are hostile to Ukraine. The funds for drones are also effective and Taurus isn't a game changer in any sense, on top of a very high price the stockpiles are very limited.
Colby Badhwar@ColbyBadhwar

Taurus remains a useful capability that could be added to Ukraine's arsenal. Merz should honor his word.

@Robert_E_Kelly Hard disagree. One petulant man cannot do it all by himself. He has the support of half of his country. THAT'S what will have to be researched by sociologists and psychologists, not historians. The fall of empires is interesting, as long as you're not living at that time.
