Evangelical Christianity in the United States is often characterized by a deep desire to have “Christianity” pervade our culture but not have Christ permeate our being.

@Ameen_HGA And for those who have ears to hear beneath the surface, this is in fact why DEI departments came into existence in the first place. Competence is rarely the issue keeping the table monocultural…

@danmall Really love the intentionality behind this Dan! Gonna look different for everybody, but intentionality gets the ball rolling for all of us to figure out how to make it work in our specific situation…

I kissed her goodbye as I walked out the door. It was 7am. She had just woken up. Twelve hours later, I kissed her goodnight just after I got home. It was her bedtime. My daughter was 3 months old, and this was our daily routine. I left early for work every day, rode the train for an hour to work, worked an 8–9 hour day, and rode the train back for an hour. I’d catch her in a morning for a few minutes when she woke up and then at night just before she went to bed. Eventually, my wife put words to what I’d been feeling for a while: “Is that the kind of dad you want to be?” I loved my job. I loved the work I was doing, who I was doing it with, and who I was doing it for. But it no longer fit the new season of life I had as a new dad. Three months later, I started my own business. I had no entrepreneurial ambitions. It wasn’t about career growth or financial goals. It was so that I could spend as much time as I could around my growing family. That was 13 years ago. A few days ago, my daughter said to me, “I don’t know what it’s like to have parents that have to leave the house to ‘go to work.’ You’re always here.” I love that. Maybe you love your job. Maybe you hate it. Maybe you’re somewhere in-between. Maybe you don’t know what’s possible for you. My friends @vcastillo630, Rachael Dietkus, and I designed a 2-day event to show you how. We want you to know that there are so many ways that you can make a great living that doesn’t suck your soul dry but instead fills your cup (and your bank account). We’ll give you a holistic blueprint from making sure you’re taking care of yourself to the nuts and bolts of the finances, taught by people with backgrounds in business, design, social work, and human services. We’re opening registration for The Walkout tomorrow. If you’ve had the itch to get out of the corporate grind and need someone to show you how, this is for you.

@DerekrRJoseph @Ameen_HGA On a macro level yes, especially within secular school system, and I agree with your statement on interpretations and applications. But again, what is in the interpretations and applications of this book that doesn’t align with a Christian take on reality? I used to be with AIA

@Uszynski32 @Ameen_HGA When I read the book I was expecting raw data. raw data isn’t woke. interpretations and applications of it can be. Do you think academic social sciences haven’t been basically controlled by Theory proponents? Btw- I was Cru staff 01-10. You with AIA?

Some people want to live in an echo chamber where they only read or reference people that they agree with 100%. Maybe they’re afraid they’ll be weakened by contradicting ideas. I refuse to live in such a small world. Read widely. Think critically. Live charitably.

@DerekrRJoseph @Ameen_HGA Appreciate you answering. It’s strange that 25 years ago those were just observable realities pointing to problems Christians should take seriously, but now they’re glommed into a total package pejoratively called “woke” and seen as the problem. Isn’t that strange to you?

Tim Keller taught Woke as scripture & canonized George Floyd a martyr “When we see racial injustice, like the death of George Floyd, Christians should grieve and seek justice” -Tim Keller A convicted Robber & Drug dealer swallowing their stash, then ODing in sin is a person Jesus died to save. But we shouldn’t conflate him with innocent Saints!

Tim Keller exposed my political and cultural idolatry and how terribly reductionistic my political positions are and called me to something higher and more biblically and intellectually integral. Therefore, he is a woke leftist communist that was unfaithful to The Bible

@Elijah_Moree @Ameen_HGA Interesting how many make the confident claim that Keller’s motive in saying these things was to appear “winsome.” That never even crossed my mind as a reason, though there’s be nothing wrong with it. He took those positions because he thought the alternatives were foolish…

@Ameen_HGA @megbasham Tell me you are progressive without telling me. Keller’s mission field was progressive urban ppl. The way he reached them is what conservatives have always known. It was not hidden, while he tried.

This is a classic example of begging the question. It assumes that this is what the debate over Keller centers on. Political idolatry and reductionist political positions. But of course, those of us who are now interrogating Keller’s third way do not believe that this is the substance of the debate. I would say, the substance of the debate is whether Keller’s evangelistic approach that hinged upon Christians disassociating their political positions from their faith truly drew the lost to Christ in the way he believed it would. Also, could Christians legitimately arrive at support for either political party based on their understanding of scripture the way Keller argued they could? To both of those things, I would say, no.

@DerekrRJoseph @Ameen_HGA That’s not answering the question. It’s largely a book of research and conclusions drawn by that research. What make it “woke” for you?
