Also though, if you have made money on Tesla, congrats! But you may want to try to see a trend here: Tesla's annual net income (profit attributable to common stockholders) for recent years, in millions of USD: 2025: $3,794 million (down ~46.5% from 2024) 2024: $7,091–7,130 million (down ~52–53% from 2023) 2023: $14,997–15 billion (up ~19% from 2022; record high) 2022: $12,583 million 2021: $5,524 million 2020: $690 million 2019: –$862 million (loss) 2018: –$976 million (loss) 2017: –$1,962 million (loss) 2016: –$675 million (loss) 2015: –$889 million (loss) Hard to see, might have to squint, but I think I see a trend...

Am I the only one who thinks it's absolutely wild that the first trillionaire has never actually made 1 dollar in net profit across his companies? We live in interesting times

@lawsoncrusade Part of either being or not being a dope is reading comprehension The fact that you didn't read the part where it says "across his companies" solves this mystery for us. Thanks for playing, come back anytime

@00iamgru00 People have believed that for 24 years now, so I guess we'll see how much longer people keep buying into the dangled carrot game...

@VolatilityVIX You don't build a trillion dollar company without re-investing your money in your company, obviously. The fact thats where the money goes, rather than to fund a lavish lifestyle on a superyacht, is what differentiates Elon from all the millionaires sick with envy right now.

@PeteBrown2 Yup, it's either the billionaire class stops fleecing the economy, or they have to cut all the social programs from everybody else It's one or the other, and I strongly suspect I know which one it will be...

It's true that some of the complaints about wealth disparity are perhaps just jealousy But a lot of it is also that the wealthy pay a far lower "effective" tax rate due to loopholes and structures They lobby governments and regulators to change laws in their favour They donate to politicians that then grant them contracts on quid pro quo In many cases tax payers are involuntarily funding the wealth being grown to those staggering levels It's not out of line for people to expect that the wealthy pay the same effective tax rate as the progressive income tax system says they should Not nominal dollars, that's a distortion that the wealthy use. They'll say we pay XYZ percentage of all tax money Yes, obviously, you also have XYZ^2 of all the wealth No, I mean the same relative percentages of taxes along the way for everyone, and the same rules as everyone else "IF" that's the system we had, people would have less of a problem with the billionaire class But people know the system is rigged, they know wealth is being extracted behind closed doors They know the United States should be wealthy enough that everybody has a higher standard of living The problem is NOT that people are billionaires It's HOW they became billionaires that is the issue

@Bradford396704 I suspect there's less time than people think. The vast majority of people have no clue about the financial situation of SpaceX. When we see a couple earnings reports, then we'll see how much faith people put in that stock price

@Bradford396704 True now, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case going forward. It's not hard to imagine some of those contracts going to other companies if the government changes Regardless, my only point was that in 24 years they've spent more money then they made

@VolatilityVIX SpaceX is a monopoly with the US government as it's largest contractor. I think SpaceX will be just fine.

@MandalorianGe0 @Banana_clipzzz I'm sure you'll have to Google it, but where do you think the funds for social safety nets are invested? Do you have social security? Then guess what? You'll very soon have SpaceX stock Learning is fun :)

@VolatilityVIX @Banana_clipzzz Plenty of companies do it your way. Go buy Berkshire. No one is forcing you to buy SpaceX. It's all voluntary.

@MandalorianGe0 @Banana_clipzzz Ah I see. So every company on earth is actually doing it wrong? Net profit is actually a bad thing? You should write a book or something, it would be a shame to rob the world of your genius

@VolatilityVIX @Banana_clipzzz Let me try to summarize your point then. Across the companies he currently runs, most of which are private he doesn't return a lot of cash to investors but instead reinvests in upgrades so there isn't a ton of net profit. That is something we want. Cash is when your out of ideas.

@MandalorianGe0 @Banana_clipzzz Great point! Obviously a company he was ousted from 26 years ago before it even IPO'd still counts right? It's no different than us still counting the profit of the great great great grandchildren of the Dutch East Indian Trading company right?

@PantexCap That's exactly what it is, investing in the future growth For young companies that's fine, but for ones almost 25 years old? Good luck to those who are buying, I hope it works out for them long-term

@VolatilityVIX It’s called investing in growth. People ragged on Amazon for years because it didn’t “make money”, except it did, then it invested more in opex to grow

@Banana_clipzzz Tesla has made less than 40 billion in its entire history, and SpaceX has lost more than that. Both companies are over 20 years old. Even not including 1 penny of the 10's of billions in subsidies, it's still below zero profit Class dismissed

People acting like SpaceX is a startup It's been 24 years, and lost 41 billion cumulative Can we slow down a little on the comparisons to other companies that actually make money?

@V_Manente That's the thing right, it's obviously a great company with potential But the valuation has to be somewhere in the realm of reasonable In my opinion people are focusing too much on potential revenue, and not nearly enough on current profit

Biggest IPO launch in history, at a time when equity valuations are at the very least, stretched... Could be the ultimate "how didn't everybody see this coming" moment $SPCX

Your #1 priority as a successful long-term investor is risk management The larger your drawdowns, the higher your rate of return afterwards has to be just to get back to break even Protect your capital first!  Look for increased profit after that...
