Our focus must shift from short-term water management to establishing long-term water security. For this, we need policy-based initiatives to Save Soil. In scale and efficiency of storing water and replenishing groundwater, healthy soil has no parallel. Bharat has the opportunity to present a demonstrable model to the tropical world that limited land and high population density are not a hindrance to becoming water abundant when our soil is rich and fertile. On 22 June, a grand tree-based agriculture event in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu attracted the enthusiastic participation of over 1,500 farmers, filling the venue to the brim. Deeply disturbing. In a world of plenty, no one should go hungry. The dearth is not of food but of human care and concern. Global commerce & geopolitics are structured such that conflicts and climate crises in any part of the world will affect the food security of the whole world. Rising food insecurity will lead to large-scale disruptive migration. It is vital that every Nation becomes food sufficient by restoring their agricultural soils to health & richness.
