@FootballInT80s Surely a fourth consecutive League Cup win for Liverpool here; won in a replay at Villa Park in 1981 against West Ham. Sorry to be a pedant.

On this day in 1984: The 2 Merseyside clubs met at Wembley as Liverpool went for a 3rd consecutive League Cup against Howard Kendall’s resurgent Everton. The game itself finished 0-0 but not without controversy Referee, Alan Robinson missing this handball from Alan Hansen.

@Britpopmemories @uniofeastanglia Pretty sure the NME revelled in the "scene's" failure as it was a Melody Maker/Simon Price thing. I've been to bed since then so I may have that all wrong.

30 years ago this week the NME reported that Romo had died. The student union bar at @uniofeastanglia would be its Waterloo.

@Britpopmemories @shedseven Nothing on page 2 for me, so two from page 1... Bikini Kill with Bis as support sounds good, and then the mighty Prisoners. Wow...what a night that would have been.

Let’s go gigging! I’m sure you know the rules by now, but choose one gig from each page of this 30 year old double spread. It’s a fairly eclectic mix, so you’ll find something you like! I’m going with @shedseven and Tiny Monroe. You?

❤️Remembering Martin McGuinness. It’s hard to believe that nine years have already gone by. Martin lived for Ireland and for the people of Ireland. A dedicated Republican activist and leader who gave so much. We loved Martin dearly. We miss him terribly but we always remember him. His legacy drives us towards the day when the sun will rise in United Ireland. 🇮🇪 Ní bheidh a leitheid aris ann.

This is MMA fighter Sean McInnes. When Anne Marie Boyle asked him to leave her alone, he punched her in the face so hard that he broke her cheekbone and her eye socket, knocked her unconscious, and left her with a life-altering brain injury. He was given less than two years behind bars. It would be a real shame if this post was widely circulated and impacted his career in a negative way.

In April 1986, England U-21s took on their Italian counterparts in Swindon. Gianluca Vialli scored this late goal despite the condition of the pitch. Tim Breacker did not approve of the celebrations.

@tsrunseen @ianbrown Valencia is the gig to listen to to really hear Mani's bass way high in the mix, really showcases his work like you dont hear on the recorded tracks.

@Britpopmemories @thebandbis @mandarin Oh yes, a refreshing change after listening to Oasis, Bluetones, Shed 7, Cast, etc, from 94 - 96...their music was fun, didn't take themselves too seriously, and were never going to be commercially successful...a breath of fresh air at the time in a similar vein to Kenickie.

Happy 30th birthday to “The Secret Vampire Soundtrack” by Bis. Probably their best known release because of the track “Kandy Pop”. Who bought a copy?

@Crookedman76 @anon_opin The production on Nevermind the Bollocks still makes me think it's a contemporary record and I've been listening to it since around 1993.

Trip hop has aged incredibly well. Portishead, Tricky and Massive Attack sound great today. Name any other niche time specific genre that doesn't sound embarrassing and clunky 20 or 30 years after its heyday.

A junior said "Good morning" to me in the elevator. I checked my watch. It was 11:00 AM. I looked at him. "It's almost lunch," I said. "You're three hours late to the concept of morning." He tried to explain he'd been at his desk since 7. I interrupted and told him accuracy matters more than intent. I emailed his reviewer suggesting he take a CLE on time management. He apologized later. I didn't reply. I forwarded the apology to HR as proof of his inefficiency. Greetings are risky. He learned an important lesson. Never speak to a partner in the elevator. Unless spoken to.

@BabaYoungblood I struggle often with American bands, like a lot of them don't translate to me lyrically...but faves include: Shocking Blue - At Home With Sleater-Kinney - No Cities to Love Nirvana - Live at Reading The Doors - The Doors. But I could include all albums by those artists.

@stevewallwork @jslovechild I don't recall Princes Park playing in a hooped shirt. Seem to remember them playing in a shirt with a rugby league style V across the front. White with a blue V is what I remember from when Roy of the Rovers put Hamish in a colour strip.

@80s90sfootball England v Holland schoolboys, Fellows Park, Walsall, around 1982ish. First professional match was the Milk Cup Semi Final, Walsall v Liverpool at Anfield. What an experience for a 9 year old from Walsall, those brutalist floodlights on the old Kemlyn Road stand...😲
