this sounds really harsh but I wish when the Qin had invaded the Baiyue, they would've killed everyone, including the women, instead of intermarrying because it would make my job easier if HK and Taiwan had the same genes as Shandong, everyone would be able to recognize that mainlander defects was real CCP karma made mainlanders uglier but because northern han is better looking than southern han, when you compare northern mainlanders with TW/HK women, the difference is not as striking as it should be .... i'm usually anti-genocide but it's really frustrating to have to remind people to 'control for genetics' when considering mainlander defects @GeZhu13

@wangxk3 @AngelicaOung Mainly a population problem. Shimao culture probably has the strongest evidence of human sacrifice but other cultures seem to have them on a small scale. I do think they’re unrelated to Mesoamericans though. Prehistoric people just practiced human sacrifice a lot.

@AngelicaOung Not possible really. There isn't that much archeological evidence of human sacrifice pre Shang. While the mesoamerican blood sacrifice is 2000 yrs later. And the land bridge was way before

“No…I don’t think the Tang made a mistake in over-depending on their non-Han generals. That assumes there was a choice. The truth is by Tan Xuanzhong’s time they had already lost control, before the An Lushan rebellion happened.
It has always been thus in Chinese history. The steppe peoples have never been defeated as much as bought off or fended off with alliances with other steppe peoples. That’s how the Han did it. It was how the Tang did it.
The Song did not want to play that game. They were reduced to holding the South only for that reason, although they were very rich. The Qing were overpowered because they knew how to deal with the steppe peoples. The Mongolians and the Tibetans were glad to do business with them.
My favorite dynasty? Tang was glorious. But the Spring and Autumn period before the unification of China was by far the most interesting in producing philosophy and thought. China was a network of city states and while each may be ruled by an absolute despot you only need to move to a different kingdom and you can say what you want about the old king.
Why did Confucian thought get elevated above all the others? Because it’s the only one that’s useful for the emperors to maintain order. While he was alive he went from king to king while kissing ass to try and get a job. He never got a job while he was alive but no wonder his work is popular with emperors once he died.
