The funny thing is Indians are by far not the only ppl guilty of this kind of creative projection. When something is a prominent feature of our own culture we start seeing the ghost of it in other cultures quite naturally.
For instance, I’ve seen Taiwanese ppl trying to learn English as a second language trying to assign tones to English words. I’d tell them…no English is not a tonal language. And they’ll argue back « I can kind of hear it tho » and I’d say…erm that’s just the stress. « Sounds like tones to me… »
