Soooo I spent an hour creating a comparison between Elliot Anderson last season, aged 22, and Mateus Fernandes this season aged 21, using Squaka and FotMob. Sadly, I’ve lost it😭. But what I found was a player who by 23 can be on Elliot Anderson’s level and could even overtake it, especially under Bruno’s mentorship. And for me that’s also confirmed with the eye test. I think that’s what the likes of PSG, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool are also seeing in Mateus Fernandes. We should consider the fact he is playing in a relegation side as fortunate because it does drop his price. But we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves in refusing to meet West Ham half way. Because whether he’s a Premier League player or a Championship player his ability and ceiling are identical. I suggested we bought Fernandes last Summer as a Baleba alternative when he was playing for Southampton. And this season has only made me even more excited about him. He has a long career ahead of him but it’ll be easier to move from Manchester United to PSG or a Real Madrid in the future than it would in the opposite direction. Hopefully the likes of @B_Fernandes8, @Cristiano and @DalotDiogo will convince him to follow in their footsteps.

@MUFCSauce_ +Mateus is carrying the ball from deeper with better dribble success % and from tighter volatile areas compared to Anderson’s mid-block to final third carries. He has also clocked in faster sprint speed while carrying the ball in dangerous situations.
