If someone corrects me, not once or twice but multiple times, I quietly try to emulate them and if I have access to them I will ask for guidance. Most people, it seems, will seek to avoid that sort of person.

How weird is it that there's no social reward for being right?
Like, no one admires you for it. If there's a disagreement, and people have to pull out phones to check, and you're just right... Your reputation doesn't improve. If anything, it's harmed

Being a serious person, trying to find solutions to important problems, is a hard task that a lot of non-technical libs, most progressives and literally every single leftist just refuses to do. They leave it to you, and hate you for it.

It is genuinely radicalizing to always have to be the bad guy whose politics don't make him sound like a good person. It sucks feeling lonely and singled out, like your politics are shit and everyone else's is magic.

wife said that she listened to a podcast where the host said cities don’t plant fruit trees everywhere because they hate homeless people and I said no your host is wrong and it has to do with pest control, pollution absorption, inefficient shade, and because fruit tree maintenance is considerably harder than how you can ignore crepe myrtles for 90 years, and now i'm the bad guy

@goblinodds The optimal place would have been the end of a process where someone was trying to condense their words for brevity and legibly hit a pareto frontier and couldn't do much better than they were doing.
It's legible, even obvious, that this person was doing the OPPOSITE of that.

I would rather not live in a city or a civilization with people who do this, or celebrate it. Can I have a place where people clearly identify Luigi Mangioni as a psycho killer, this person as a crazed arsonist? Can all of you just go away?

Because the government has made new housing illegal, a warehouse of goods was set on fire, directly destroying many labor hours of productivity and likely to destroy more indirectly as a consequence of higher security and regulation

A relative once told me a "white lie" as a child (that my parents would be coming the next day) and that made me trust them differently for decades.
I think for them, the "white lie" was worth it to get me to calm down, but looking back, was it really?

@NinaPanickssery Maybe, though I think my friends/family are generally against that too. I remember a relative telling me a white lie as a child and that being pretty destabilising. I cannot recall I time my parents have ever deliberately lied to me about anything.

They made fun of the hero worship around Obama, because his supporters have always been a bit ridiculous.
