Real-time, GPU-driven, 3D Contour Curves, both visible & hidden lines. Once I couple this with contour-adaptive remeshing and my old 2D contour curve algorithm, this will be the most powerful lineart renderer ever existed.

@jwtstone I'm not sure that the remesh algorithm will suit itself well for GPU compute. The original paper states that their intention was to have it run on the GPU, but they ran into many unsolvable corner cases. So they went for a sequential approach instead. I would love to discuss it!

@ZaedDB This shows 3D curves on the mesh, with or without occluded parts. However, the actual curve shape is still not perfect even on a densely subdivided mesh. I'm planning to do GPU remeshing like the smooth contour paper you ported before.

Normal maps in blender have been bugging me for a while, and I finally know why! The normal map node actually applies normal maps incorrectly when the strength isn't set to 1. This causes some nasty artifacts which can be easily fixed with a custom nodegroup. ( 1 / 4 )

@HotdogNugget Have you reported this on the Blender bug tracker? Seems like you have a good reproduction file as well. Might not be fixed right away, but I think it is worth giving it a shot and see what they say.

(This setup also lets you easily invert the normal map by setting the strength to -1, not sure why the normal map node doesn't let you)

@Sreliata @Blender If the reading in .dds textures produces a garbled/incorrect image, then I don't believe that it is intentional. If you can create a simple test case and report it to the bug tracker, that would be great. Just a simple plane with a .dds texture that works in 3.5 is enough.

@Blender Absolutely fantastic!! That said, it appears blender 3.6 LTS has issues reading .dds textures. Models that worked fine in 3.5, won't look good in 3.6 for that very issue. Are you aware of that? Perhaps it was .. wanted, even?

Thanks to the suggestion of @lacapi_tv, I developed a new tool in my #greasepencil add-on that fills the line art based on color hint strokes. It is similar to Krita's Colorize Mask, but works on vectors. It can also be combined with existing tools like 3D mesh conversion. #b3d
