I am taking a hard look at the voices I am amplifying, here on Twitter. We all need more diversity, thoughtfulness, and kindness in our feeds.

@alik41 @br_ttany I won't deny that the bureaucracy is frustrating and I had my fair share of struggles. The flip side is that you get much more support from the gov for your young kids than most countries (high daycare subsidy, free schooling, social aid if you qualify, health benefits...).

@_cmfg @br_ttany Let’s not forget that French bureaucracy can be cauchemardesque! Just getting a carte vital can take a year, you need to be prepared to deal with a lot of paperwork to get set up (I’ve lived 6 countries, France was by far the worst in this regard).

Settle a debate. If you love NYC, but don't want to live there with two little kids, where in the world would you move to? Looking to get culture + walkability + diversity + energy but more habitable for children (parks, schooling, museums, etc).

@br_ttany 3 downsides of Paris imo: 1) To truly integrate, you will need to learn French, easy for kids maybe a bit less for you 2) Subway has a lot of stairs and not many restaurants have high chairs / changing tables 3) Central Park equivalents are further away, on the edge of Paris

@br_ttany I have lived in NYC (without kids though) and I feel safer in Paris (firearms are extremely regulated here). On the cleanliness, it is the same as NYC, big city life, some rats (bigger in NYC) and dog poos.

@br_ttany Strongly recommend moving there before September so you get them both enrolled for the "rentrée". It is way harder to get a daycare spot if you don't start in Sept. The big downside of Paris is the not stroller friendly subway with lots of stairs but if your 2 yo walks well..

@br_ttany Paris is a great option for affordability of childcare and diversity of activities. Your 2 yo could be enrolled in a daycare, max 950€ / month or so for up to 10 hours a day. Your 4 yo would be enrolled in a primary school, which is free, except for the canteen.
