@anne_theriault Ronda, Cadiz, Seville, Granada, in that area, all amazing. And medieval history in that part of Spain is also Muslim history which is fascinating. And top medieval Christian story is El Cid, look for the way of El Cid, if you want a theme.

@sharonodea I used to live there! But I used to say that I lived in Paddington or Hyde Park, depending on what class status I was trying to project.

London no-go zones: a definitive guide Finchley. You've seen it there on the map, just north of Hampstead. But have you ever been there? Do you know anyone who lives there? No you do not.

@AdeleGroyer @lrossouw This is so sad, and thanks so much for letting us know @lrossouw. I never met Adele, but her calm good sense and rigorous analysis was an inspiration to me and many other actuaries trying to understand Covid 19 throughout.

It is with sadness that I, @lrossouw, have to let you know that Adele passed away from cancer late on Friday. I've known Adele for many years since she was working in Cape Town, to when she moved to Gen Re in London in 2008 and later when she joined my team at Gen Re.

Working on a talk about cycling & public health. Cyclists out there -> what do you see as the major gaps in making cycling feel safe & accessible to you? That are fixable by councils & govt? (ie not cold and dark weather bc that's just life in Scotland)

If you're already on Bluesky but you're letting your account kind of just sit there / not logging in, we're up to 300 climate and energy showcase accounts on the list I'm curating, and there is already a very lively network forming quickly. + our site owner isn't a racist bigot

@BrentToderian @sharanjit They also have a LOT of wind. I've heard windy days referred to as Dutch hills. And if you've ever tried riding into a serious headwind, sometimes a hill is easier.

Tweets about urban biking in #Dutch cities are routinely replied to with some version of โ€œwell, they have the big advantage of being relatively flat.โ€ The Dutch also have the big advantage of not constantly making excuses about why they canโ€™t make clearly smarter decisions.

How is it possible to spend $70million on a project to track the spending of fewer than 1,000 people and still not have it work? Thatโ€™s several multiples of the cost of a general ledger for a large company!

@EmmaVitz Just copying bits of mine: Emma is an advocate for the insights actuaries can add to many important issues. She is a member of the AI's WG on Climate Change, key author of the climate index, and in her spare time she writes actuarially about a wide variety of issues.

@Jean__Fisch @AdeleGroyer @KarenCutter4 Australia also had basically no flu in the 2020 winter, so looking at the actual deaths here (the blue dots) there does seem to still be some seasonal pattern, but not nearly as much as in a bad flu season (if you want to compare, 2017 was the worst flu season of all those shown)

@AdeleGroyer @KarenCutter4 @Actuarialeye Ah, I see now what you wanted to show! Indeed, I had noted this in many countries: lower winter bugs = lower circulatory but then I always got a reply "yes in part but there is some circulatory which is seasonal beyond winter bugs" And the NZ data seems to say "that's not true"

This chart shared by @UncleJo46902375 is the one that intrigued me most recently Why? Because NZ experienced no winter bugs / covid in 2020 and there is no spike of deaths in the winter In other words: all the increased deaths for circulatory in the winter are de facto flu 1/4

@ClareCraigPath You think a couple of hundred thousand old and infirm emigrated? Actually NZ had no winter peak in 2020. No COVID, no flu, etc.

@brent_peabody The Gold Coast is not a left wing part of Australia though. All the federal seats are LNP, so I donโ€™t think you can rely on the politics staying the same with taller buildings just because it is coastal.

It's Public Education Day, and I'm #ProudToBePublic, having gone to public schools for my whole education. This is me in Year 6, the year I had Mr Duncan, the best teacher ever, who taught me to write well, even though I just wanted to do maths!
