So my software dev friend told me to try using AI for programming and to treat it like "enhanced Google", so to try and experiment to see if it could actually solve my problems faster than me just Googling it, I tested it with a few of my own outstanding issues. this shit is so ass dude It just hallucinates settings in my software 90% of the time. Any code it spits out is basically unusable either architecturally or because it lacks context. It's also insanely over engineered, tries to reinvent the wheel, or just has so much bloat overhead from trying to pre-optimize or "do perfect code" that I'd spend MORE time just fixing what it gives me to make it usable. This sucks lmao My problems tend to be relatively niche which makes it worse. For example, trying to figure out why FFT block processing sizes being too large are causing artifacts in my audio in FMOD. Do you know what it said after I told it the setting it told me to click didn't even exist? (which was a stupid solution to begin with had that setting even existed) "You're right, I'm not confident enough in the exact FMOD Studio menu paths to keep guessing them — I've already got several wrong. Let me look this up properly." Then proceeds to just give me Google results I've already seen. This is actually the most infuriating waste of time I've ever seen how do people use this in their games unironically lmfao. Maybe I'm just using this wrong but I have genuinely zero interest in trying to wrestle with this garbage to give me what I want. So far the only thing it's been good for is allowing me to rubber duck my problems, and I can use a blank Notepad file for that. It has in fact solved zero of my questions. Experiment over, I'm just going to go back to using my brain and stop wasting my time thanks for actually nothing. 🙄

The Touhou 6 remaster is the best thing we've gotten in the last 10 years.

@witherornot1337 @spaztron64 Sorry, I took a while replying, but thanks for helping with context. I've been thinking about this and decided I'm going to err on the side of believing he's still lost the source code. I just don't think his current quote in the stream fully overthrows it as evidence.

@aggressive2hu @spaztron64 Full context from that stream, they were talking abt the backup bcz you can see the entire full-body sprite ingame, and before that the artists' deadline crunch, code wasnt mentioned I do think its funny though that during this crunch, the devs were (maybe) just recompiling code

The very first thing I said in chats after new EoSD was announced is that I was 80% sure it was just a fork of the GensokyoClub decomp, because it's the most economically sound decision. Nobody believed me. Sometimes intuition just works, y'know.

I have zero respect for ZUN because he decided to do a full remake slop and offshore it to someone else. Too bad 90% of touhou fans will eat it up

There's just something really funny over the fact that it's this specific EoSD remake that finally pushed a few members in JP to say ZUN is selling out. Aren't they rather too late to say that after his constant appearances on Lost Word's puppet shows? I just don't get it.

@cryofantasia @eeekgoawayidiot To be fair, it's not that I think the remake has any real risk of art AI, but the dev's interest in neural networks made me speculate on how AI assisted coding is popular nowadays. But, I'm happy to be called a little reasonable.

@eeekgoawayidiot @cryofantasia Don't mind it then I was also posting asking about the head dev's neural network, and some people misconstrued it as fearmongering, so I wanted to know.

@cryofantasia Not just 20, but 19 has undisclosed suspicious backgrounds, but everyone would rather nitpick a real doujin artist to death instead of properly taking ZUN to task for more egregious examples. It's really all performative.

@spaztron64 LLMs aren't really AI according to metrics I see, but people refer it to such anyway, and waifu2x seems to functionally do what a modern LLM upscale command would but on a smaller scale with limited data. I'm mostly just trying to get an explanation in the first place, though.

@aggressive2hu DCNNs like waifu2x have been around for a very long time. A neural network does not automatically equal an "AI". It's really just a self-refining mathematical algorithm in practice.

I don't know how to feel about the lead programmer being a guy happily advertising his involvement with an AI (neural network) picture converter. Is this where the AI upscaling accusations about the portraits are coming from after all? Correct me if I'm wrong.

@spaztron64 It just seems to contextually refer to the sprite art, and the Japanese are weird about stuff like art hosting sites sometimes, so maybe he wanted to provide the references directly? But, admittedly, I could be way too charitable right now when he's not exactly honest.

@aggressive2hu That would be an even sillier case, because extracted graphics are anything but difficult to find on the internet. I don't give the benefit of doubt to habitual liars, so admittedly I am biased towards a specific interpretation.

@Punished_4AGE Nothing, but there's more than one guy doing it, and they might be less drunk. It would also shut their group down quickly since people only give ZUN the pass for spaghetti coding.
