🚨The tragic discovery has been confirmed: James "Jimmy" Gracey, the 20-year-old University of Alabama junior from Elmhurst, Illinois, who went missing in Barcelona, Spain, during spring break, has been found deceased. Gracey was last seen around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, outside the popular beachfront nightclub Shôko in the Port Olímpic area after a night out with friends. He never returned to his Airbnb, prompting a massive search by Catalan police (Mossos d’Esquadra), including aquatic and dive teams. Key developments: His wallet was found floating in the sea near Somorrostro Beach on Wednesday. Authorities recovered a body in the same search area on Thursday, March 19. Spanish police and media (including La Vanguardia and El Periódico) confirmed the remains belong to Gracey. Officials stated it appears to be an accident, with no indication of foul play or criminal activity. Gracey was visiting friends studying abroad and was described by family and his Theta Chi fraternity brothers as kind, responsible, and devoted—a mentor and philanthropist who was "there for anyone when they needed it." His family has asked for privacy during this heartbreaking time and expressed gratitude for the support and prayers.
