I quit my job. TLDR: past 2 years in development hell was burning me out. 14 years in the industry and still battling the same production issues. So I’ve rested, and now me and my husband are going indie. We have a plan, and wow making games is fun again.

@Drolltic @Comrade_Waluigi You dont know what its like or how you'd react until you have it. Its very overwhelming to have thousands of eyes on you and a lot of the feedback you get is negative or threats or just weird. It quickly turns into something you dont wanna touch with a 10 foot pole.

@V_rbatim Plenty that arent. Earthbound, Ico, mother 3, etc (mother 3 doesnt even have an English translation so you'd HAVE to emulate it to get a fan-made English translation of it.)

@brawlermage There are plenty of great classic games for old retro systems that are still dirt cheap and expensive ones get ported all the time. They just announced Ghost Babel is being included in the next Metal Gear collection and Little Samson for NES is getting rereleased this year.

That trend about not playing emulated games is the most unrelatable thing I ever did see. Makes me think a motivating factor for playing games is trying to justify the financial investment rather than just playing the games.

@V_rbatim @LonelyGoomba Theres plenty of retro games that are unplayable aside from emulation... unless you wanna buy a few old consoles and pay scalpers 100 bucks per game

@LonelyGoomba I just don't feel that I am entitled to free luxuries and entertainment. It's an insult to everyone who actually does spend their hard-earned cash on the products. Plus, if everyone does pirate everything, the industry will die, and I'd rather that not happen.

@misbroc I intentionally never made one because I knew it would be full of thousands of very young kids and that's a bad liability. Maybe ill make one soon but I'd have to find someone very competent to run it.

Question to anyone out there: I have a young man (22 yrs old) in my extended family who is able-bodied and smart but literally won’t do anything with himself. Rarely leaves the house, never went to college, has never worked. Will not drive a car. Plays video games a lot. Often doesn’t leave his room when we come visit. But if you talk to him he’s bright and easy to talk to and nice. Could do well in life. Often has undiagnosable mystery ailments that have been used to justify his inactivity but nothing concrete. What is this, really? Anxiety? Depression? I’ve never seen anything like it. All I do is pray for him.

@trelakor2 Because not only are good projects harder to make, 9 times out of 10 they make less money than cashgrabs (harder to make more content for a good game... and fried attention spans.) Think of something like Vesteria which is a crazy high effort project and barely averages 400 CCU.

why can’t projects like these be the norm for roblox, kids could grow up with genuinely fun shit instead of five billion brainless cash cows
