I quit my job. TLDR: past 2 years in development hell was burning me out. 14 years in the industry and still battling the same production issues. So I’ve rested, and now me and my husband are going indie. We have a plan, and wow making games is fun again.

*start out. You’d start out renting a stall, the scavanging, stealing, working you make enough money and resources to upgrade, get a lock on that stall door so stuff isn’t stolen if you go out on shadier night missions.

With the game back in preprod I am looking over some of the design and mechanics, one of those things are restrictions. I like them. So for building, say you stay out like this. Living in a stall with your horse until you can buy a plot of land in town. Cozy miserable is my vibe

If you have a hobby project, a world you’ve wanted to build or a story to tell. Do it. Start today. If you’re on your phone go into notes and just write a couple of lines. What do YOU like, what do you know well? What type of story did you last enjoy? I’d love to hear about it!

@BloodstockGame Hey, your game looks interesting especially the atmosphere / visual direction. Are you currently polishing for a demo/trailer, or still building core content?

It’s #ScreenshotSaturday! Throw whatever you’re working on into the replies. Could be something you’re proud of, a WIP, or just whatever chaos you've been staring at all week. Let’s see what you got 🔥 #gamedev #indiedev

@TheIndieManiac Uuh, started up my old hobby project after finally quitting my current job and enduring 2 years of development hell that burned me out. 14years in game dev, finally gone indie with my partner, and making games is fun again.

@MKupski I feel for you..6 years huh, that’s brutal. I loved the team I had, they were all so skilled, average of 10years in the industry and…no one was allowed to do their job. Just watching moral go down the drain,I still hope they can turn it around though. But yes, hobby projects ftw

@BloodstockGame Great to hear! I've been in 6 years of dev hell and did side projects. That was the only creative lifeline I had! Looking forward to your stuff!

@MythThrazz Personally, I loved how the Vampyr game worked with consequences of choices, but yeah no it’s not gonna be a focus to have branching story and stuff even if that’s cool too

@BloodstockGame Few things beat a classic zero to hero. Of course I’d love to see some deep and big choice-and-consequence but I know too well how awfully hard/expensive it is to do it right. Will definitely keep an eye on the project.

@MythThrazz Yeah no ai here, I’ll mess up on my own thank you~ I’ve been going back and forth with the angle of the narrative but I’ll probably stick to the underdog theme, the player starting off as a courier/postal worker then becoming part of a rebellion against the Crown

Good for you not to feel the pressure! And I’m not surprised the project resonates - art is beautiful and text sounds genuine and likeble. Stands out from the AI crap and reused engagement baits. Also checked the game just now - novel, interesting idea, I can imagine it as a beautiful story.

@MythThrazz Agreed. Good thing about my past two years of employment and dev hell at least paid really really good, so we aren’t strapped for cash yet and have time to explore a bit and see what works. So far I’m humbled by the amount of people resonating with this project even early!

@BloodstockGame I think that if you do something really cool/good/fun in public people will throw money at you nowadays. The biggest problem is to get to the spotlight. And actually make something fun for others 😅

@MythThrazz Thanks, we are both already having so much fun, I almost thought maybe I was done with games, done playing and making them. Turns out I just needed a break and a project that lets me be creative and productive..who needs money anyways~

@ArnaudCarrasco It was time, when even my 3yo kept asking why I was always sad I figured enough is enough, I just want to make games and not be in unproductive meetings or have 6months progress be thrown out on a whim from higher ups. The industry is doing greeeeeat

@retro66boy Glad to hear, this is it for now, this is my hobby project that has been approved then blocked by every studio I’ve work at for the past decade due to non-compete disclosures, but I quit and created an indie studio with my so at the start of this year, so more news coming!

@BloodstockGame The image looks very very intriguing. Where can I read more about the game and is there a way to wishlist it?
