Today is the darkest day of my life. My beloved son, Agnivesh, left us far too soon. He was just 49 years old, healthy, full of life, and dreams. Following a skiing accident in the US, he was recovering well in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us. No words can describe the pain of a parent who must bid goodbye to his child. A son is not meant to leave before his father. This loss has shattered us in ways we are still trying to comprehend. I still remember the day Agni was born in Patna on 3 June, 1976. From a middle-class Bihari family, he grew into a man of strength, compassion, and purpose. The light of his mother’s life, a protective brother, a loyal friend, and a gentle soul who touched everyone he met. Agnivesh was many things - a sportsman, a musician, a leader. He studied at Mayo College, Ajmer, went on to set up one of the finest companies Fujeirah Gold, became Chairman of Hindustan Zinc, and earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Yet, beyond all titles and achievements, he remained simple, warm, and deeply human. To me, he was not just my son. He was my friend. My pride. My world. Kiran and I are broken. And yet, in our grief, we remind ourselves that the thousands of young people who work across Vedanta are also our children. Agnivesh believed deeply in building a self-reliant India. He would often say, “Papa, we lack nothing as a nation. Why should we ever be behind?” We shared a dream to ensure that no child sleeps hungry, no child is denied education, every woman stands on her own feet, and every young Indian has meaningful work. I had promised Agni that more than 75% of what we earn would be given back to society. Today, I renew that promise and resolve to live an even simpler life. There was so much life ahead of him. So many dreams yet to be lived. His absence leaves a void for his family and friends. We thank all his friends, colleagues and well-wishers for always being there for him. Beta, you will live on in our hearts, in our work, and in every life you touched. I do not know how to walk this path without you, but I will try carrying your light forward.

A Journey of Courage, Pain, and Hope: Our Battle Against Cancer! It’s hard to put into words the rollercoaster of emotions that my family and I have been through over the past 9 months. This year began with uncertainty and fear, as in January 2024, my wife (TSG) started showing symptoms that we couldn’t quite place. Life has a way of throwing the most unexpected challenges your way when you least expect it, and that’s exactly what happened to us. On 24th February 2024, our world turned upside down when we began my wife’s treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma - a type of blood cancer that affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. The diagnosis was a punch in the gut, but what followed was even more grueling: a treatment plan that tested her strength, our patience, and our will to fight for every precious day. Her tumor was large - 13.0 x 4.5 x 9.0 cm - and her treatment was aggressive. From February to July 2024, she underwent 6 cycles of chemotherapy, with each cycle consisting of two sessions spaced two weeks apart. I can’t begin to describe the pain and fatigue she endured. Chemotherapy was unforgiving, stripping her of energy, her hair, and at times her will to push forward. Yet, through it all, she never gave up. Even when the side effects were at their worst, she kept fighting with a resilience that left me in awe! After the chemo, she had to go through 17 sessions of IMRT radiation therapy, one every day (except weekends). By this point, her body was battered, yet her spirit remained strong. Radiation came with its own set of challenges, but she met them head-on, just as she had with everything else. I can’t speak about this journey without mentioning the toll it took on our entire family. Our little girl, who turned three in July, often didn’t understand why mommy wasn’t feeling well or why we couldn’t play as much as before. Trying to shield her from the harsh reality while also making sure her world still felt normal was one of the hardest things we had to manage. There were moments when the weight of it all felt crushing. My parents and in-laws have been our pillars of support, stepping in when things got overwhelming. Seeing your loved ones suffer is never easy, and watching them try to stay strong for us while their own hearts broke was humbling. This disease didn’t just affect my wife - it impacted all of us in ways we never imagined! Now, on 24th September 2024, I can say, with immense gratitude and relief, that her treatment is finally over. She has responded well, and the light at the end of this dark tunnel is finally shining bright. We are cautiously optimistic about the future, and she’s doing fine now, but the scars - both emotional and physical - will remain. This journey has taught me the importance of getting the right diagnosis and proper treatment. It’s not enough to simply hope things will get better - you need to fight for the right care. We were lucky to have a team of doctors who acted quickly and with precision, but I know not everyone is as fortunate. That’s why it’s so crucial to be vigilant, to seek second opinions, and to never settle for uncertainty. To everyone reading this, I hope our story serves as a reminder to cherish every moment you have with your loved ones. Life is fragile, and we never know when it will test us in ways we cannot imagine. But it also shows that with the right support, the right treatment, and a whole lot of courage, even the darkest days can end in hope. A special note of thanks goes to the incredible team of doctors, nurses, and support staff who have been there for us every step of the way. Your unwavering dedication, care, and expertise gave us the strength to keep going, and we are forever grateful for everything you’ve done. Thank you for giving us hope when we needed it the most. Thank you to everyone who has been there for us, and to my incredible wife - you are the strongest person I know. I am in awe of your courage, and I am grateful every day that we get to walk this road together. We’ve made it through the hardest part. And for that, I am forever thankful! 🙏
