Now that I’m out of government, I can finally respond for myself: Get bent, soyboy. We didn’t do this for “Silicon Valley . . . companies.” We did this for you, for your family, your community, your state, your nation, and your species. Nuclear energy provides the safest, highest density, reliable power available on our planet. My career colleagues at DOE and NRC inspired me to think about nuclear as a way to forge American steel and electrolyze aluminum without releasing particulate matter, to desalinate water in the Middle East and save humanity from resource wars. By rejecting the false narratives and Cold War hysteria, we can secure the next American century while raising whole countries out of poverty. Do you really think I left an incredible career at Kirkland, paid out of pocket for an apartment in DC and dozens of cross-country trips, and left my family on the west coast because I wanted to enrich people I never met before taking this job? I came to D.C. to do something that mattered, to satisfy a driving curiosity (more on that later), and, most importantly, to serve. As I learned more about nuclear energy and its history, I developed a conviction that one nuclear’s biggest issues was a culture of cynicism: nothing new or exciting could happen because it would end in disappointment, and that militated against rocking the boat even a tiny bit. The career staff in government and their industry counterparts lived through dark winters before and stopped believing that warm springs could bloom into summers. I have two core philosophies. First, I believe in ruthless optimism. Rational decision making requires detached risk analysis. But we also cannot win if we believe we can lose. Merging the two requires orienting teams around driving missions. That way, when a real opportunity presents itself, you can take a huge swing. If I take credit for anything—honestly, almost all of the success belongs to the incredible and dedicated people at @ENERGY and @NRCgov—it’s countering the cultural rot and morass that risked forfeiting American excellence. My colleagues and I gave cover to the scientists and engineers, which freed them up to focus on delivering safe power. And, as success materialized, they started to dream again. That’s why the pilot program succeeded, and why I feel confident about the future of NLICs and NRC reform. Nobody needs me anymore because they can innovate on their own. My second core philosophy is to assume positive intent. Avi, I know that you heard about my real motivations from multiple people you interviewed when preparing your hit piece on me. Rather than telling that story, one which could help inspire another generation of people to use their talents for the greater good, you ignored them. Instead, you implied that Peter Thiel recruited me for nefarious purposes. (I’ve never met him, but, @peterthiel, if you’re reading this, I’m a huge fan!) Nuclear regulation starts and ends with safety. I promised everyone I worked with that I would resign before doing or pushing for anything that could compromise public safety. But I also distinguished between real safety and performative bullshit. That’s what the careers came to embrace, too. We love nuclear, why would we do anything that could risk threatening its future? America faces a crossroads. We can either trod a road of cultural decay or hike our way back to the peak of global innovation. Join me on the latter path. Correct the fear mongering and conspiracies and tell the story of America’s great reindustrialization. Tell the story of our public servants, our great entrepreneurs, our scientific dominance. Tell the real story about how DOGE went nuclear.
Avi Asher-Schapiro@AASchapiro

Seth Cohen—the DOGE official who was a driving force behind much of the Trump admin's nuclear energy policy—resigned. He was one of the key figures reshaping the regulatory environment to benefit Silicon Valley-backed advanced reactor firms. x.com/OverReactor177…

@OverReactor1776 To the "nuclear is scary crowd", what do you think all the Navy's aircraft carriers and submarines operate on since the 1970's? Small nuclear reactos..when have we had a meltdown there, all the while operating in hostile oceanic environments? Get a fucking grip. It is the key...

Learned decades back (win98) most of these things are far too dumb to actually do much past being annoying if you don't do stuff with default drive locations or os environment defined locations. Don't keep shit in docs&sets/user dirs, don't install shit to progfiles. Put it all on a 2nd drive, disable services for search, indexing, bitlocker, remote *. Set the default browser to something like a .bat that just contains "exit" or otherwise break the function of anything running being able to pass a url to open a browser or email client. Find it a bit funny IT professionals still run "important" systems just throwing everything in the first place anything nefarious is going to look with all the unnecessary the services still enabled to help it along.

What do I do in this scenario? 1. Disconnect from internet 2. Sigh, take a huge rip off my vape 3. Blame the keyboard, not me. 4. Remove the .exe, any persistence mechanism on my machine 5. Angrily reset all my passwords 6. Refuse to use a VM in the future, I'm not a coward

If you get swelling more than 6-8" away from the sting or start getting hives at all you need to find a urgent care/er fast. Its probably better to just go to urgent care if you have problems with other bugs. Benadryl does work but the amount it takes will have you feeling pretty messed up & bee stings can still be a problem over a week later. See a doctor, they will get you with a eppipen if need be and should give you some steroids for a week to keep it under control. Far better than dealing with being doped up on benadryl. Also seeing a doctor will get ya a script for a eppipen kit.

Sandy Petersen, the designer of Doom, Quake, Call of Cthulhu, and Age of Empires, responding on social media to fans asking how to save Blizzard: "We don't need to save Blizzard. We didn't need to save Microsoft or id Software or Ensemble Studios or Atari. We don't need to save ANY game company. If they die, they die. They will be replaced with new, likely superior game companies. Gaming continues." The man who helped build the foundations of modern gaming says let the industry's legacy studios die. Is he right?

Fact is if he had to sell it all in the next 5 years or lose it, it would never total up anywhere near a trillion. Those stocks he holds give value to the shares others hold specifically because he holds them. Twitter, he was supposedly worth 380-500bn at the time, couldn't come up with 40, 1/20th, its obvious most everything he owns was already leveraged to fund something else. House of cards built on debt. If the loans had to be paid back tomorrow rather than after death it would be a whole different story again. I'm not saying its a "bad" thing, just that the wealth tally is looking at what he owns without subtracting the loans attached to it when most of it was bought with loans and then borrowed against to fund more again. He may own control a trillion worth of stake across a hand full of companies, he def couldn't convert that into anything even close in actual cash. People think a trillion is such a unimaginable number, but that is just not at all the reality of his asset vs debt balance, or the value of shares in companies he controls if he was to sell enough to lose that control. I dont know what ratio of debt banks and investors are ok with for someone in his position but the man does nothing slow, I doubt he is financially leaving much sitting around that could be put to work.

@celiturbo Banks will let him borrow billion of $$$ to do whatever he wants. That is how he bought Twitter, using his Tesla shares to secure about 1/3 of the money via loans he needed. You are correct, difficult to sell so many shares. It has taken Bill Gates decades to sell his $MSFT.

Drugs cooked her brain, that is why she is a complete mess. Actual physical brain damage is not even remotely in the same category as boohoo some things happened growing up. Comes with fame for some at all ages, chose the party life over the smart life, found out hot shit famous doesn't = invincible. Either way going bat shit crazy isn't a direct result of being a famous performer at a young age. And seriously stop pretending 16 year olds are infants, its disgusting, you know fucking well what you were doing, thinking, and understood when you were 16, don't pretend otherwise. Go back 30 years any most of my family was out of the house and working by 16, a generation before that married and starting a family was common. If a 16 year old is too incompetent to navigate life, it is 100% because of morons like you keeping them helpless & oblivious of reality.

They are only really going after those who end up in the legal system over crimes. Its basically nothing, it does nothing to correct the damage the mass of them are doing to our economy. 30-40 million illegals and 99.5% of the work visa's need to go. Sub 10k/month deporations is nothing.

@celiturbo @iAnonPatriot 💯 The first rational person on the right. And so I often ask others, where is the immigration reform. Deportation which only serves like you said as public appeasement, getting people excited, doesn’t solve the problem unless the plan is to permanently shut the border to POC.
